Spring Break: March 20 - 31, 2023

Message from the Superintendent

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Students:

Spring has arrived at last!

It was interesting to look back on last year's notes from this time and be reminded that we were planning the distribution of the Rapid Antigen Tests, and how hopeful we were for the eventual lifting of COVID restrictions in our schools. As all have hoped, it has been a productive year so far, with many positives to account for already, and many more on the way. Strategic Planning certainly makes that list, and after three sessions with our group of 40 staff and stakeholders reviewing, sorting, and prioritizing student, staff, and parent input, I am pleased to see our priorities for the next five years starting to take shape.

On behalf of senior staff and the Board, I am wishing everyone a healthy, happy, and safe spring break, and a positive finish to the school year.

Errington Elementary School

Students at Errington Elementary enjoyed a visit from Mayor Doug O'Brien. Students talked about local government, the job of Mayor and our Community.

Errington Elementary is hosting the Salish Weave Collection, a 12-piece series of art pieces by Coast Salish Artists. The collection was installed by Tracie Finstad of our Indigenous Education Department and will remain in the EES lobby/gallery until after spring break. Students and teachers are exploring the unique spindle whorl design of the Coast Salish artists in which certain shapes and colours are used.

Kwalikum Secondary School - Student Government Spring Symposium

Students from Kwalikum Secondary School Governance gave an update on the "Mid-Island Youth Climate Action Symposium" to assist at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre on April 19, 2023. Guest speakers include Seth Klein, Ecko Aleck and Doug Hopwood.

There will be discussion and break-out groups for the students that have been invited to attend from other local districts.

The students have secured funding for the event through learning grants, the community, the Zero Waste initiative and from MATA, if needed. A lot of great progress and much work has gone into the planning already! See the link below to view their website for this event.
