Leading the Charge on Market Street
Another class of automobile is set to help resuscitate Market Street alongside commercial vehicles. Mayor Lurie announced Waymo may begin service east of 10th Street as soon as this summer. Lurie notes, "By welcoming Waymo, we’re adding another safe and sustainable way to access shopping, theaters, hotels, and restaurants."

988 Market to Become Arts and Media Hub
"Warfield Commons, an arts and independent media hub," will open in the building that rises over the Warfield Theater at 988 Market St. Purchased by Community Arts Stabilization Trust (CAST), KQED notes radio station KALW is an anchor tenant, and that CAST is in talks with other media and literature organizations regarding leasing space in the building.

995 Market to Become Tech Tower
Described as a"vertical village," Deep Ink Ventures/Berlinhouse shared plans to acquire 995 Market St., where each of the 16 floors will be dedicated to "ventures like artificial intelligence, human longevity, biotech and cryptocurrency, among other things." These additional elements include event space, co-working spots and 50 living units. Berlinhouse notes in the SF Business Times articles that "Empty office spaces are becoming the new frontier."

UN Plaza Skate Park Expands
The Market Street skate park added 2,100 square feet of skate space designed by Olympic skateboarder, MIT-trained architect Alexis Sablone. "This innovative installation showcases the fusion of skateboarding, art, and design and reimagines public spaces as hybrid playscapes," said funder Benjamin Anderson Bashein, CEO of The Skatepark Project (formerly the Tony Hawk Foundation).

Two New Restaurants at Saluhall
Smish Smash Burger has expanded their popular burger restaurant to a location at Saluhall. Attesting to how good their burgers are, the SF Chronicle's Associate Restaurant Critic wrote an article entitled, "I'm Calling It: This is San Francisco's best smashburger spot."
Following on their heels, Cheezy's Artisan Pizza opened in March. From well known chef David Jacobson (Pizzeria Delfina and Flour + Water), he's headed to the World Pizza Championships this month. Pizza lovers can expect, "...12-inch pizzas, five day-fermented sourdough crust, ... a 'reinvention of neo-Neapolitan and Grandma-style pizza.'"

Town Hall Brings Out Neighborhood
Early February, Supervisor Matt Dorsey, Police Chief William Scott, and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins held a District 6 Public Safety Town Hall at Saluhall to discuss community concerns, safety initiatives, and solutions for a safer San Francisco. Illegal Vending Proposition
That same month, Senator Wiener with Mayor Lurie unveiled an effort to revive a bill aimed at illegal street vending in San Francisco. Under the new law, the SF Chronicle reports, "the Board of Supervisors would be empowered to create a list of merchandise commonly obtained through retail theft. Anyone selling items on that list would need to have a permit or proof of purchase. Police could ticket violators with infractions on the first two offenses; the third offense would be punishable with a misdemeanor and up to six months in jail."

New Strategy to Combat Drug Use and Selling in SF
Also in February, the the City and SFPD announced immediate plans to convert a space on Jessie Street at 6th (469 Stevenson) into an outdoor triage center, where "where San Francisco Police Department officers can direct drug users to treatment or jail, officials," according to the SF Standard. Open as of mid February, Journey Home, the program that provides bus tickets to those from elsewhere in the country, is also operating out of the space.
