The City will double its footprint at 1455 Market Street to 930,000 sq feet, as both the Board of Supervisors and Mayor Lurie greenlit the 21 year lease. This expansion marks the largest office deal in the City since 2018, and a SF Chronicle article notes "Lurie’s spokesperson said the Mayor’s office is 'very invested in the future of Mid-Market...'" City offices moving in include SFMTA headquarters, human services, and personnel from the City Attorney's office.

As part of the ongoing edification of the District, our annual Golden Brick award went to the International Art Museum of America, with their president K.C. Hsieh accepting on its behalf. One of the longest-running arts organizations in Mid Market, hosting 90 exhibits since 2018 and hundreds of community events, IAMA's mission is making art appreciation and education accessible to all. Just in time for the World Cup, SoMa Social Bar & Kitchen opened. Featuring 21 screens, and a World Cup viewing lineup on their Instagram, the SF Chronicle also notes the "restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with dishes that include bread pudding French toast, sausage Benedict, hot honey chicken biscuits and pork belly nachos."

Delicious updates for Saluhall: The bars, now called Spirited, are under the guidance of Always Fishing beverage director Austin Klein. In an SF Gate article he notes: "'From behind the bar, I can see the bus stop I waited at as a kid... We’re building something that reflects the energy of San Francisco and creates space for people to gather in a way that feels natural and welcoming'.” Grand opening today, Tuesday, July 7th.
Also now open at Saluhall: Oklava, a Turkish bakery, serving Turkish-style coffees, salads, pizza slices and pastries. "Our goal is to create a space where people can grab a quick, delicious Mediterranean lunch or linger over a traditional Turkish coffee. We're building a menu that is accessible and affordable, but never compromises on the quality and heritage of the food," said Oklava Café manager Deniz Soykan in a recent article. The owners also own another District spot: Turquaz.

District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey, along with District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, have introduced legislation banning the automatic approval of convenience stores in Mid Market, SoMa and the Tenderloin. Mission Local notes: "Corner stores take up much of the ground-floor retail space in these areas, especially on the Sixth Street corridor... According to the proposed legislation, over 75 such stores exist now." It goes on to note, "The city attorney’s office has forced many to shut for allegedly hosting illegal gambling machines or selling drugs or paraphernalia."

District arts organization Root Division, has ongoing exhibitions through their gallery space, such as the current exhibit Machismosa (through July 25th). They also offer an array of public art classes, and host an annal art auction, the date recently announced for this year: October 22nd.

NPU Live continues to bring great DJs to Mint Plaza on the third Thursday of the month. Dance and then dine at an adjacent restaurant such as 54 Mint or Burma Love. Next DJ set is July 16th!

A.C.T.'s Young Conservatory presents a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" (Aug 7-16) at The Strand. Following this, A.C.T. presents "Every Saturday Night," (Oct 10-Nov 1), which "...pulls audiences back into the 1950s, the vibrant 'Harlem of the West,' when the Fillmore pulsed with jazz, community, and possibility."
