A Perfect Day in Mid Market

The 10th Annual More Than 2 Blocks of Art Inspired, Encouraged and Brought the Community Together for a Wonderful Weekend of Visual Arts, Music, Dance and More

Once again our annual art walk - this year titled "More Than" 2 Blocks of Art - treated participants to a unique arts and cultural experience showcasing the past, present and future of Mid Market.

Grand historic buildings and theaters hosted visual and performing artists. The newly renovated United Nations Plaza was alive with an all day dance festival. And vacant ground floor retail spaces were converted into galleries for the two-day event. Attendees, which included retail brokers and prospective tenants, had the opportunity to tour multiple retail spaces available for lease all at once. Exhibitions stretched from the new IKEA at 5th to Trinity Plaza's sculpture garden at 8th. Thanks again to the businesses, property owners, exhibitors, sponsors and attendees; and of course SFPD, Urban Alchemy, Public Works and our very own CBD team and volunteers. It was an extraordinary event start to finish thanks to you!

Car Free Market Street: Has It Hurt or Helped?

SF Standard took a look at the history of the Better Market Street project and its shrunken scope, and if a car-free Market Street needs to be reconsidered. "Beyond the issue of cars, many stakeholders in the city believe San Francisco needs to at least go back to the drawing board when it comes to creating a more vibrant thoroughfare worthy of a world-class city."

Beyond Chron Also Weighed in on Mounting Momentum to End Car Ban on Market Street

Hotels, restaurants and residents heavily dependent upon ride share and delivery services are becoming more vocal, as are Mid Market stakeholders eager to help shape and implement post-pandemic strategies for resuscitating the downtown core. "The car ban kills the street level activation that the city claims to support in Mid-Market," said Shaw in this week's article. "It's at cross purposes with City Hall's agenda for the area."
