Mid Oregon Credit Union Member Connections Newsletter for March 2026

Money Doesn't Grow on Trees

As the saying goes, “money doesn’t grow on trees.” So, when you find yourself with some extra funds, it’s important to make the most of them.

Whatever the source of your unexpected windfall—a bonus from work, a tax refund, an inheritance, or just a bit of budget surplus—it can be exciting, and splurging can be tempting.

While nothing is wrong with treating yourself, it pays to pause and consider ways to leverage your extra cash to improve your financial goals.

Prioritize Your Financial Goals

Take some time to think about your own financial goals and rank them in order of importance. Once you have a good understanding of your goals, explore ways to allocate those extra funds.

Mid Oregon sponsors Free Family Saturdays at High Desert Museum Jan 31 and Feb 28, over 6,000 people got to go for free. Short video of a baby porcupine.

From Porcupine Babies to Big Smiles, Mid Oregon Celebrates its 22nd Year of Free Family Saturdays

We estimate that nearly 6,000 visitors have enjoyed exploring art, wildlife, and living history at the High Desert Museum during Mid Oregon's Free Family Saturdays on January 31 and February 28.

There was much excitement among visitors when the Porcupine babies came out to say hello! Many kiddos (and adults) left with big smiles, great memories and some fun souvenirs from the Silver Sage Trading gift shop..

We value our long-standing partnership with the High Desert Museum and look forward to continuing to providing fun, educational experiences for our Central Oregon communities.

Thank you to all who attended—see you next time!

One Class At A Time: Mr. Grubb from Obsidian Middle School honored for inspiring students with hands-on skills

There are some lessons we learn in school that last a lifetime and one Redmond teacher is making sure his students get those lessons early.

Mid Oregon and KTVZ surprised Obsidian Middle School teacher Dan Grubb with a $1,000 award through the One Class at a Time program, which recognizes educators who teach lifelong skills. Mr. Grubb recently revived the school’s shop and career education program, drawing strong support from the Redmond community.

Mr. Grubb was excited to possibly put this thousand dollars toward a CNC router so that his students would be able to create their own designs with the technology.

This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking, student-focused initiative that KTVZ News and Mid Oregon proudly celebrate through One Class at a Time—championing teachers and programs that make a lasting impact every single day.

Mid Oregon and Dutch Bros is Paying It Forward with $500 cash for Charlie Young

Pay-It-Forward Recognizes Charlie Young!

Our Pay It Forward program recognizes people who make our community a better place to live with a $500 cash award from Mid Oregon, Dutch Bros and KTVZ.

For 28 years Charlie Young has volunteered as a mediator for the Deschutes County Courts. Mediation offers a legal alternative to trial — instead of taking a dispute before a judge or jury, people can sit down with someone like Mr. Young to peacefully work out their differences.

The Pay It Forward program shines a spotlight on those who make our community a better place to call home. To nominate someone in your neighborhood you can fill out the nomination entry form on the KTVZ21 website.
