Fraud Prevention: How to protect yourself from holiday scammers

fraud /frôd/

noun

  1. wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

The holidays are a time of joy, family, and relaxation, but they can also bring added stress. Whether you're feeling the financial strain of gift-giving, dealing with travel hassles, or racing to check off your to-do list before taking a break, the holiday season can make you vulnerable to identity theft and scams.

Scammers are always on the lookout, and the festive season provides them with ample opportunities to exploit the sense of urgency that often accompanies shopping at this time of year.

While the risks are real, there are steps you can take to safeguard yourself from falling prey to a scam or having your personal information compromised.

Community Corner

THANK YOU!

Another successful Supplies 4 Schools!

With the support of our members, Mid Oregon collected over $1,700 and filled numerous bins to overflowing with school supplies during its annual Supplies 4 Schools fundraiser in August.

“For over two decades, Mid Oregon has helped Central Oregon K-12 students start the school year off right by providing them with the supplies they need to be successful the moment they walk into their classroom,” says Kyle Frick, VP of Marketing and Community Relations for Mid Oregon Credit Union.

Mid Oregon partners with Family Access Network (FAN) to distribute supplies to students in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson Counties who lack the necessities to succeed at school. All donations remain in the community in which they were received.

Thank you to everyone who supported our local students!

On September 8, thousands of the colorful ducks were excited to hit the water and show off their racing skills. Spectators eagerly awaited and cheered at the Galveston Bridge “starting line” as the ducks splashed into the river, competing to be first to cross the finish line.

Mid Oregon named Top Workplace for Third Consecutive Year!

Mid Oregon has once again been named among The Oregonian Top Workplaces! This is the third consecutive year receiving this award.
