Much of our work this legislative session is focused on advocating for a much-needed Refugee Emergency Response - a $4.5 million budget request comprised of preserving critical services threatened by state budget cuts, as well as financial assistance to our neighbors struggling to hold on after anti-refugee Congressional action.
Oregon has been a welcoming new home for many, but refugees and humanitarian migrants are facing immediate and growing risks that the existing resettlement system was not designed to absorb without added support. Due to H.R. 1, every refugee adult and child has lost SNAP and will lose Medicaid this year. ICE is targeting refugee communities. Our president calls refugees "garbage."
We are advocating for direct support for the most vulnerable and critical services maintained now and during any possible ICE surge. We are working to have this funding request - not part of any bill - included in a budget passed at the end of the session.
It would help our coalition if you review the one-pager below and email your state Representative and Senator to urge their support of this Refugee Emergency Response.
We are so proud that our state welcomes and stands with refugees!
