MID-SESSION LEGISLATIVE ALERTS: FEB. 13, 2026

Greetings!

The faith community’s voice is crucial to achieving a thriving, just Oregon.

At EMO, we are committed to creating systems, institutions, and public policies that ensure a life of possibility for all Oregonians. We build powerful coalitions of community members, Oregonians of faith and partner organizations to advocate alongside those whose voices are too often ignored in the halls of power.

We are tracking and weighing in on bills that seek to create a fairer tax system, improve our education system and protect our immigrant communities.

This week, join us in making a difference today on gun violence prevention and supporting refugee Oregonians.

Thank you!

Gun Violence Prevention: Time to Implement M114!

We urge you to email the House Judiciary Committee members in support of HB 4145 so Oregon can finally implement Measure 114, approved by the voters in 2022.

Lift Every Voice Oregon (LEVO), the interfaith force behind Measure 114, has shared some language you can copy and paste, or you can use your own words. (Our message is here.)

  • I am an Oregon resident who voted for Measure 114. I wanted it implemented immediately, and the delay due to the Courts has been frustrating. We need to reduce gun violence, and Measure 114’s ban on large capacity magazines, closing the Charleston loophole, and the permit to purchase requirement should be in effect now.
  • ·HB 4145 will make the implementation of those steps more efficient and effective. They should be in place once the Court rules.
  • HB 4145 MUST pass this session.

Send one combined message to all House Judiciary Committee members, who are set to vote on the bill on Monday, 2/16:

Urge YOUR Legislator to Support Refugees, Block ICE

Much of our work this legislative session is focused on advocating for a much-needed Refugee Emergency Response - a $4.5 million budget request comprised of preserving critical services threatened by state budget cuts, as well as financial assistance to our neighbors struggling to hold on after anti-refugee Congressional action.

Oregon has been a welcoming new home for many, but refugees and humanitarian migrants are facing immediate and growing risks that the existing resettlement system was not designed to absorb without added support. Due to H.R. 1, every refugee adult and child has lost SNAP and will lose Medicaid this year. ICE is targeting refugee communities. Our president calls refugees "garbage."

We are advocating for direct support for the most vulnerable and critical services maintained now and during any possible ICE surge. We are working to have this funding request - not part of any bill - included in a budget passed at the end of the session.

It would help our coalition if you review the one-pager below and email your state Representative and Senator to urge their support of this Refugee Emergency Response.

We are so proud that our state welcomes and stands with refugees!
