YOU ARE BORN OF A CONQUERING GOD
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:1-5
(This week’s Boost is part of a weeklong devotion series that Pastor Tim Scarbrough recently sent out to his congregation based on a message Larry preached in his church.)
This passage in 1 John 5:1-5 declares that those born of God possess a faith that overcomes the world. This faith to overcome whatever we face in this world doesn’t come from our personal strength, but only through belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
We didn’t get to choose our beginning. We didn’t choose the family you were born into, the hardships you may have faced in your early years, or the wounds that shaped your earliest memories. But, the moment you were born again, something extraordinary happened. Old things passed away and all things became new!
The God who raised Jesus from the dead-with all power and all authority-did not do so to offer you a barely get-by existence. He conquered death so that you could walk in the fullness of what that victory purchased.
You are not a victim of your past. You are the begotten of God.
Speak this over yourself today! Don’t whisper it. Let your ears hear your own voice proclaiming who God says you are! Look in the mirror if you have to and say it loud enough for your ears to hear it and your heart to receive it.
Think about this: What voices have you been listening to that contradict what God says about you?
Faith grows by hearing and hearing and hearing. So speak who God says you are, because you really need to hear it!
In what area of your life do you need to stop living in the “I was” and start living in the “I am”?
Declaration to Life: I am a child of God. I am an over comer! Because Jesus conquered, I more than a conqueror! I’m not the person I used to be! I’m a new creation in Christ!
