TRUST THE INSTRUMENT PANEL
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; Psalm 19:7-8
Recently, I flew into the San Francisco airport on a very cloudy day. When I glanced out the plane window all I saw were clouds and I could tell by the sound of the engine that we were getting very close to landing. I heard the landing gear come out and I thought, “How is the pilot going to land?” How does the pilot even know where the runway is? He can’t see a thing!
All of the sudden, we popped out of the clouds and all I saw was water underneath us, then in a flash the tires bounced on the runway and we were on the ground safe and sound. I was very appreciative and amazed at the ability of our pilot.
When flying a plane in the clouds it is vital that you know the flight plan and be able to read and trust the instrument panel. Weather patterns can hinder visibility. The pilot won’t always be able to tell exactly where he is headed and he can’t rely on feelings or sight. The outside influences could get him off course and cause the plane to crash.
The same is true in life. In order for us to fly on a steady course in the right direction, around the dangers of life, we must have full knowledge and understanding of the flight plan and the instrument panel.
The Word of God is our instrument panel. It gives us the basic flight plan and instructions. We must not only read and understand it, but we must also learn to trust it and follow it explicitly. It will guide us and direct us safely, without crashing.
When you give your life to Jesus, you now have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps you understand the Word. Every time you read the Bible, He will teach you new things or give you a deeper understanding about the things you already know. The Holy Spirit will bring to life a verse you might have read a hundred times. The scripture will speak to you in a new and fresh way.
That is why you should read the Word over and over, every day. If we don’t have Gods Word in us every day, we will forget it. And each day we are apart from the Word waters it down from our memory.
God’s Word is perfect, it changes us, it makes us wise, it brings us joy and it floods our life with light. We need that light to illuminate the flight plan and help us fly successfully!
Declaration to Life: I will be strengthened with the knowledge of truth as I read your Word. Teach me what I don’t understand. Make your Word become the fabric of my being. Weave it into me so it forms who I am.
