HOME

Here on earth we do not have a city that lasts forever, but we are looking for a city that we will have in the future. Heb. 13:14

As traveling ministers, there are days when, as much as we love doing what we’re called to do, we get excited to go home. Home is a special place; a place where you belong.

We are born into this world. We’ve never been anywhere else, yet the Christian never quite feels at home here. We’re never at home with pain, loss, sorrow, growing old and death. Even when life is at its best, it can never fill our hearts. I think that the longer we are in this world, the less we are at home within it.

The Israelites grew up in Egypt. It is the only home they knew, yet they quite felt at home there. They were rescued out of Egypt and led to the Promised Land. They had never been to the Promised Land, yet they knew deep in their hearts it was their home. It was their salvation.

Salvation is all about coming home. From the Jews returning to the land of Israel to the prodigal son, returning to his father’s house, Salvation is home.

Jesus said, “They don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world.” (John 17:16). We’re never at home here in this world, because it’s not home. God didn’t design it as our home. There is a home, but this is not it.

There is a place for which we were made for. According to John 14:3, Jesus is preparing that “home” for us. Where there will be no more sorrow, evil, dying or imperfections. Our Promised Land! We’ve never been there, but when we get there, we know we’ll be home.

Don’t set your sights on things that aren’t eternal. Don’t get so twisted about things going on here on earth. Live today in the light of the fact that this is all temporary. Set your heart away from that which is not home. Set your heart on things that are above.

Jesus is coming soon and then we will be HOME!

Declaration to Life: I will turn my eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things in this earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of his glory and grace.
