ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Psalm 136:1

It’s amazing how thankful we are for our spouse when we first get married. When we first say, “I do” our spouse is the best thing since sliced bread. It’s like our partner is the missing fourth member of the trinity (especially if you were single for a while).

In those beginning days we were always lifting them up, talking good about them, preferring them and going out of our way to let them know how special they were.

But it’s amazing how fast we can became disappointed in that person that we prayed so hard and were so grateful for. The newness wore off pretty quick and it was way too easy to go from gratitude to familiarity and then from familiarity to disappointment.

It is so very vital to keep cultivating and nurturing a spirit of thankfulness, in our lives and marriages, all year long.

I really enjoy “infused” water. I place lemons, strawberries, cucumbers, oranges, blueberries and whatever else works in my water and I allow those flavors to be infused into it. My water takes on the flavors of what’s in it and makes it fresh and inviting to drink.

We must allow this spirit of gratitude to “infuse” everything we do. When we are infused with thankfulness it makes us whole and keeps us fresh and inviting to those around us. It makes us flavorful!

Cultivating a life of gratitude is so good for us! It shifts our focus, moving focus away from our personal, immediate problems to God's faithfulness and goodness. It transforms our attitudes. It is a form of worship and it strengthens our relationship with the Lord. It causes the peace that passes all understanding to arise in troubled times. And one of my personal favorites, it promotes a more consistent life of joy which is our strength!

You might think, “Things are hard, I don’t really have anything to be grateful for right now.” At the very least, if you know Jesus, you can be grateful that your saved and going to heaven! And if you look hard enough you will find that there is always something to be grateful for every single day!

Are you going to nurture an attitude of daily gratitude? The choice is yours!

Declaration to Life: I choose to give thanks to the Lord, because He is good and his mercies, love and kindness are for me forever!
