REMEMBER ME
“For I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. "And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.” Luke 22:18-20
I can be forgetful. That’s why I often write on post it notes, calendars and lists. I don’t think I’m the only one.
We take pictures and make photo albums to remember special times like weddings, babies, birthdays and vacations.
Countries and states build monuments and statues to remember important people or events. We have holidays like Veterans Day or Presidents Day to remember people who have made a difference in our country. Remembering is so important.
Throughout the Old and New Testament, God’s Word tells us to “remember” or “forget not.” In fact these statements are mentioned close to 500 times. I think God knew we would need some help remembering the important things too.
Jesus, very close to the time He would go to the cross, had a simple meal with the men he loved, His disciples; His inner circle. During that meal, Jesus offers the cup and bread as symbols of His body and blood - so that they – so that we - would never forget!
Jesus made the greatest sacrifice that forever gave us freedom from the power of sin, sickness and bondage in our lives! It is a sacrifice that we must never forget!
Psalm 77:11 says, I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
When we take the Lords Supper, we worship, we give thanks, and very importantly, we remember God’s incredible act of love and goodness towards us!
Let's remember Him!
Declaration to Life: God, your mighty deeds are way too numerous to count. I remember you today with my worship!
