KNOWN BY OUR LOVE
“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35
I was reading this verse the other day and it jumped off the page and hit my heart. It was like I was reading it for the first time. When this happens it is called revelation of the Word, which comes straight from the Holy Spirit. The Word is alive and full of life! You might have read the same scripture hundreds of times, like I have with this particular verse, but it can be like your reading it for the first time when the Holy Spirit reveals truth to you!
For the first time I saw what this verse doesn’t say. It doesn’t say others will know we are His disciples by just loving our God. It says they will know who we are and who we follow by our love for each other. That’s a powerful statement!
Now we know we love others because of our love for God, but Jesus is putting a huge emphasis on how well we love each other! How well do you love your brothers and sisters in Christ? You can say all day long that you and God are tight, but if you can’t seem to get along with people in your church, or your family, or anywhere else for that matter, it is an indication that something isn’t right.
Talent is developed in solitude, but character is developed among people.
The first evidence that you love God and are fellowshipping with Him, is that you want to fellowship with and love others. When you spend time with other believers, there is a supply of life that is available that will strengthen your faith.
God loves people! If we don’t love people, we really can’t say we love God. 1 John 4:20 says, “If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar…”
People are people and they have problems and when you hang out with people you will see their faults and find out what their problems are. Sometimes it can be difficult to get along but the blood of Jesus, which we have in common with each other, cleanses sin and all it forms and makes it easier to love others.
I believe you can tell how someone is getting along in their relationship with God by how they are getting along with others in the Body of Christ. Take inventory today and decide to love others big!
Declaration to Life: I want others to know I love God, by my love for others! I love others well and my love will be an advertisement of my love for God!
