HE IS TRUSTWORTHY
By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Hebrews 11:11
Hebrews chapter 11 is one of my most favorite chapters in the Bible, but specifically I love verse 11. I love it because it is such a bold declaration of Sarah’s faith in a seemingly impossible situation.
You and I will face issues in life that look totally impossible, and in those times, we need the Holy Ghost to give us revelation and insight into this promise!
Sarah was facing barrenness but she was given a promise that she would have a child. And even when natural limitations seemed to rule that promise out she stood in faith. She regarded the one who promised to be trustworthy and she believed Him to be faithful to His Word. She received what God had promised her by her faith; her miracle baby was born just like God had promised.
We too will receive our promises by faith! Hebrews 11:1 tells us what faith is. Faith is the confidence that the things which we have only hope for really do exist. It is the conviction of the reality of the things which as of yet are out of sight. (Barclay) One translation calls faith the title deed to the things we hope for. Faith is turning dreams into deeds. It’s betting your life on unseen realities. It’s being fully persuaded and confessing that persuasion, that even if it looks impossible God will bring it to pass.
Faith isn’t mental assent; it's a conduit for God's power, enabling the naturally impossible. Like Sarah, we receive strength to overcome barriers when we bank on God's character and ability, not our own. So many times when we face the impossible we can get tangled up in trying to figure out how God will do it. We zero in on one possibility and miss all the ways God is moving and working in and around us.
Sarah walked in faith; a strong conviction that God was who He said He was and that He would do just as He promised and we need emulate that kind of faith in every impossible situation we face!
We are to walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Cor. 5:7) Miracles happen every day! The sick are healed. Prodigals come home. The lost are found. The barren have children! The authority of our faith can rest on the one who made the promise and tap into His faithfulness just like Sarah’s did.
Declaration to Life: God is faithful, trustworthy, kind and true. He will never waver in being so. I will live by the unseen and be confident that God will carry out what He has promised!
