Options are to validate one’s position and to advance one’s agenda. Great explorations are made to choose the best option(s) available. This is a good practice for secular pursuits, but there are no other options when it comes to the security of eternal life.
As Jesus near the end of His earthly ministry, The Gospel of John (Christ as the Son of God) brings the twelve close to prepare them for which he had come. Much had transpired to authenticate that Jesus was the Son of God, the Promised Massiah, The King of Israel, the Anointed One, and yet He was being rejected by the majority and still is being rejected by most. Other options to liberate Israel from the oppression of the Roman Empire, to seek a King, whose pedigree lined up with the profile that Isarael expected (Can anything good come out of Nazareth?) John 1:46. Sound kin to the climate of today, other options are sought to secure not only eternal life but also life in general.
Jesus knew those that believed not and those even close to him that was not on the team. Many that had benefited from the blessing of the miracles (feedings, healings, teachings,) that he performed left and followed Him no more. Jesus raises the question with the twelve will you also go away. Simon Peter answered, to who shall we go: You provide the only option to eternal life. We believe and are certain that you are That Christ, the Son of the living God.
As we gather as American Baptists of the Rocky Mountains and share with those prone to wander, Dones and Nones, may we provide the only option available, Jesus, That Christ, the Son of the Living God.
