Information Seeker Vs. Truth Seeker

By Pastor Shannon Warner

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:32 (ESV)

One of the tools Satan uses to impede the believer’s development, is the tool of distractions! Webester’s dictionary states “to be distracted means - anything that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else; or to be over-occupied, too busy, about a thing.”

Many times, distractions keep believers from focusing on what is true. As a child I was fascinated with courtroom television shows such as Perry Mason and Matlock. I love when the bailiff would state “all rise for the entrance of the judge” and secondly when the bailiff would give a charge to anyone who took the stand, "do you solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?”

This trinity of truth was key to being in harmony with an earthly judge, and in like manner it is also true for us to be in harmony with our heavenly judge and in harmony with each other. During this present information age truth is the one thing Satan despises because his power is toppled in any arena where truth abounds.

Satan uses the absence of truth as a distraction to manipulate all human situations. One of the arenas that Satan desires to stay void of the truth is the local church! Dr. Tony Evans, asked the question “are you an information seeker or a truth seeker?” Information seekers are willing to research just enough to get the answer that will prove them right. However, a truth seeker researches until he/she discovers the truth whether it proves them right or wrong.

7 Characteristics of Truth Seeker:

1.    Trust in God.

2.    Play a vital role in the success of the local church.

3.    Minimize church gossip.

4.    Can be trusted by pastor and leadership.

5.    Speak the truth.

6.    Defend the truth.

7.    Know the source of truth.

Jesus was concluding a teaching and he wanted to remind the disciples, although they are surrounded by bondage, there is still a freedom that can come with knowing and obeying the truth. Consequently, this is our current reality that our greatest freedom only will come when we commit to become truth seekers and not just information seekers. When we become truth seekers we put Satan on high alert, he will flee from all places he formerly dominated with lies.

I challenge you to not allow the distractions of falsehoods to defeat you but allow the prevailing power of truth to be your guide.

Prayer

God thank you for allowing us to know the truth, obey the truth, and positioning ourselves to be set free by the truth. God protect us from the lies that distract us from walking in harmony with you and fellow believers. In Jesus name we pray Amen, Amen, Amen!!!
