We Offer Thanks

by Rev. Rodney Perry

Philippians 4: 5-7

Let your [a]gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

What a powerful position to have access to the Creator, God, both directly and individually. Not having to go through a secretary, or an online request process to talk.

The Apostle Paul states, “The Lord is at hand”. He is always available for those in a relationship with Him. There are those in authority within the context of our daily living that restrict access. However, we are encouraged to call on God, to contact him as needed.

I would offer that we don’t approach causally this privilege, as admonish by Paul but “… in everything by Prayer and Supplication with Thanksgiving let our requests be known unto God”. We offer Thanks for all things, God should expect us to give thanks in every situation, not only in good times, but in challenging times as well. Somewhat strange to offer thanks during turbulence, trials, tribulations, trouble, in addition to offering thanks during blessings, benevolence, and bliss.

In this season of Thanksgiving let God hear from you, and not allow circumstance to hinder that contact, rather, allow your love for Him keep you always connected.

“I come to the garden alone,

While the dew is still on the roses,

And the voice I hear falling on my ear

The Son of God discloses.

o   Refrain:

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own;

And the joy we share as we tarry there,

None other has ever known.”

Prayer

God, we offer thanks for being our God and for allowing us to always reach you. May our time in prayer bring joy to You, as we also experience your joy. Amen!
