This Week: Dancing in the Streets! Keep Nyack Beautiful Clean-Up, Budget Updates

Mayor's Message

Hi all,

Last week, the Village Board passed the 2026-27 Budget. My thanks to the hard work of our Treasurer,Kyle Coimbra, who really clarified issues for us with clear budget documents, as well as thanks to everyone else in the Village that helped us get this done.

The Budget is very clean. We stuck to the property tax cap, maintained our existing services, and even added some new programs and services that we think will be really impactful to our community, including:

  • A new dedicated “social worker” who will be our liaison to local nonprofits and county services with regard to at risk people in our community, as part of a partnership with Catholic Charities.
  •  A new intra-village free shuttle service featuring an electric six-person vehicle from GemCar that will be an on-demand service to take residents to designated drop-off points in Nyack (more on that coming soon).
  • $100,000 of cannabis sales tax funds that will be dedicated to new youth recreational programs in the Village.

We will have more on these programs as we roll them out, so stay tuned.

And have a great week!

I spent Sunday morning with a wonderful group at Tappan Zee Lodge #79’s “Widow’s Breakfast,” honoring the remarkable Dr. Frances Pratt and featuring a keynote address by NAACP Regional Director Nicole Hines.

Congratulations to Tyrone “Yogi” Williams for organizing such an inspiring event!

If you have little ones and you’re in the Nyack area, join me for a children’s storytime at Big Red Books Shop (120 Main Street) on Friday, May 8th at 10:30 AM. I’ll be reading Hot Dog by Doug Salati—a delightful favorite. I’ll try not to mess it up too badly!
