The Alliance of M&A Advisors wanted to thank all of our members and subscribers for another fantastic year! We are gratified that the MidMarket Talk newsletter and Alliance initiatives continue to be viewed as valuable resources to the M&A community. Due to the dedication and commitment of our members and subscribers, in 2017 we saw:
  • The launch of the M&A Practice Series (MAPS). Designed and taught by practitioners in the private middle market space, these educational programs offer practical, actionable courses of study. Offered over a day and a half, the CPE eligible curricula (14.5 hours per track) is an ideal educational experience for CPAs, attorneys, lenders and other professionals looking to expand their practices in the lucrative middle market.
  • Our new platform,, go live! This powerful cloud-based support platform allows members to connect and collaborate with other highly qualified investment and advisory professionals and business owners to maximize private business value. The MidMarket Alliance will be another vehicle to help you to be more easily found and will become the first "Center of Excellence" platform for the global private M&A marketplace. 
  • New steps to enhance our capacity to better reach the larger M&A community through a combined effort of social media communications and strategic targeting of press releases. As part of this effort, the Alliance partnered with Forward Progress, a highly recognized and successful social media and social influencer and marketing firm. We have seen great impact from these efforts and plan to expand on them as a go-forward strategy.  
  • Tremendous growth in Chapter activity. We have grown from 8 chapters at the end of 2015 to 19 active chapters today. We have 5 more chapters in formation across the country and project that Chapter growth will continue well into 2018.
  • Another successful year of conference programming for the Alliance's bi-annual Conferences and famous Deal Bash, which features over two hours of networking with middle market intermediaries and investment bankers who are coming to Deal Bash with solid transactional opportunities. 
These accomplishments and many more would not be possible without you and we want to express a special thank you for being part of the Alliance community. As we begin our 20th Year, we look forward to an exciting 2018 and wish you and your family a happy holiday.

Collaboration in Action: What Business Owners Want

Recently, as CPA/value-growth advisors, we have had the opportunity to work with two different individuals looking to invest and buy a business.  In one instance, the buyer, "George", has identified the target and wants guidance on many aspects of the deal.  In the other instance, "Gina" is looking for potential targets having had a recent opportunity fall through.  The consulting support George and Gina want is different.  However, they share one important criteria in selecting their next advisor.  They are assembling their team of advisors up-front before they invest dollar one in an entity.  Both want to confirm that we are connectors and collaborators.  Continue Reading>>

Deal Due Diligence: Beyond the Numbers

Burt, the CFO of an $8 million regional engineering firm was waking up in the night with worry. 
He knew the firm's commercial bank was serious when they informed him that they would pull the firm's line of credit when Burt retired.  Their bankers knew the firm's Partners and didn't believe there was enough glue to hold their 80-person firm together without Burt's day-to-day, hands on leadership. 
Burt was not just the CFO.  He served as the Strategic Thinking Partner to many key leaders within the firm.  Plus, Burt also was the facilitator for the Senior Partners when they came together to discuss financials, business development, marketing and staffing which was infrequent. Continue Reading>>

Robert Cimasi

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Robert James Cimasi, MHA, ASA, FRICS, MCBA, CVA, CM&AA, a great friend, mentor, and professional colleague to us all. Bob was a nationally known lecturer on healthcare industry topics and a renowned author of nine acclaimed books; numerous chapters in legal treatises and anthologies; published articles in peer reviewed professional journals and industry trade publications; and, was often quoted by the healthcare industry press. He was a pioneer of the business and healthcare valuation profession, and devoted a significant amount of his professional life to selflessly giving back. Memorial Details>>
