MEAPA is proud to be a 5 year community partner with the Miami International Film Festival.  This year MIFF features 2 Arabic films.  Salvation Army is a landmark in Arab cinema - Abdellah grows up in an oversized family in 1999 Morocco, where his forbidden gay love affair is met with stony silence. ~ Preceded by "Xenos" a short film in Arabic (UK/Greece/Denmark, 13 min), by Mahdi Fleifel.  Screenings:  Sat 3/15 6pm at Regal Cinemas South Beach, & Sun 3/16, 6:45pm at Paragon Grove Cinema. Portraits of Denial & Desire

This event, presented by Al-Adwa, is a film and presentation by Professor John Halaka.  Portraits of Denial & Desire is a documentary film that explores and creatively presents the personal narratives of Palestinian refugees who have been displaced from their homes and homeland and continue to live in exile or under occupation. SCHOLARSHIP:  ARABIC & FARSI CRITICAL LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

 A program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical foreign languages. The selection process is administered by American Councils for International Education with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.  Scholarships are offered for the study of  Arabic and Persian: Advanced beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.  For more information, visit: http://www.clscholarship.org

CLASSES:  Arabic & Farsi Language Classes at MDC

Miami Dade College's Language Center is offering beginning, intermediate, and advanced Arabic and Farsi language classes for adults.  Classes are open to the public, a registration fee is required.  Classes begin in September.  More information can be found at:  https://sisvsr.mdc.edu/ce/showsched.aspx?catID=L1M.

MEAPA & UM OASIS Members met with Visiting Professionals from Oman 
MEAPA was proud to be a part of a dinner to meet visiting professionals from Oman. 
The Omani Professional's visit to the United States is through the U.S. State Department.  The Dinner was hosted by the Miami Council for International Visitors on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.  UM Oasis members were also in attendance.  If you would like to join MEAPA in future events like this, contact MEAPA.
