A NOTE FROM DEBBIE
|
Dear Middle Gate Family:
Wow, can you believe it is December and Holiday Season already? This year is flying by. For many of us, it is especially sentimental as it is our children's last year at Middle Gate. Every event and moment seems to take on greater meaning. We have been blessed to have a special community where parents, children and Middle Gate Staff look out for one another. The outside world doesn't always feel like that, it is nice to have that feeling at Middle Gate. My hope is that the kindness, love, joy, empathy and acceptance felt at Middle Gate spills over more and more into the world. We teach this to our children by word and example. They teach it to others. May that spirit of community be a part of all that touches the lives of you and your families in 2017. I think Mahatma Gandhi said it best, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world."
May you be blessed and joyous this holiday season. If you are traveling, safe travels. Whatever you do, take the time to enjoy your friends and loved ones. If you have a chance and want to post a photo on our Middle Gate Facebook page of your celebrations, I think that would be lovely. Have fun making memories!
Fondly,
Debbie DeBlasi
and the PTA Executive Board

PTA MEETING DEC 13 - 9:15AM
|
PTA Meeting Topics - and other PTA Updates:
We have a PTA General meeting on Dec. 13th at 9:15 .a.m. in the MG Cafeteria. The 4th grade student council will be there to make a short presentation then we have our meeting.
-
Dec 13 - We have The Brain Show which is a learning/game show assembly for every grade.
- The shed for the Athletic Dept. being delivered on Dec. 19th! They are excited to have a place to store their equipment and even enough room to order more fun things for gym!
- The PTA ordered and received a new Sound System for the Gym/Auditorium.
- The PTA ordered 16 yoga/sitting balls for the 4th grade as a trial program.
- The PTA ordered 16 more for use throughout the grades for students to try this innovative seating option.
- The sound proofing panels are in process. We have mapped out what we would need in the cafeteria and are awaiting the sample panels before officially purchasing them. The sound panels from the high school we were trying to use will not work out the way we need so had to go a different route.
- The 4th graders will have their guest science presentation this week.
All this sponsored by your PTA!
Thank you for your support.

DECEMBER 14 - SANDY HOOK ANNIVERSARY
|
A Note from Mr. Geissler about Resources
Dear Members of the Middle Gate Family,
As the fourth anniversary of the Sandy Hook tragedy approaches, some may be wondering how we will address this significant date. As Dr. Erardi stated in an e-message on November 18th: There has been a detailed review of how the anniversary was handled last year as 12/14/15 was the first year school was in session. I am sending this e-message with information pertaining directly to Middle Gate School. You may also click on the following link for a more detailed message which includes additional considerations and FAQs. FAQ and considerations for fourth anniversary.docx
Middle Gate School will continue to maintain our usual school routines and procedures on December 14; however, to allow for family time prior to and on the anniversary, there will be no assessments, homework, or projects on December 13 or 14. We will not have any assessments in school on Thursday either. We will begin Wednesday with our usual morning announcements (birthday recognitions, Pledge of Allegiance, Moment of Silence, and Middle Gate School Pledge) and there will be a message about kindness. Our school will continue to focus on kindness and understanding differences throughout the year. Each grade level has selected a kindness project to work towards to build upon these focus areas. Classrooms may participate in an activity related to these topics on this day. For example, one grade level is going to write letters to the Newtown Police Department and a fire department in town on Wednesday.
You will find suggestions to help you support your child as the anniversary nears by accessing the links below. These resources and those provided to staff will be made available on our school website. These include: Anniversary Reactions to a Tragic Event - The Recovery Process Continues, Helping your Family Cope - for Adults, Self-Care Strategies, Tips for Relaxation, and Tips for Media Coverage for Parents and Guardians.

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE RECAP
|
A successful event - with lots of happy shoppers:
Middle Gaters can shop! I would like to thank Mr. Geissler for allowing us to have this event during the day this year so that all children were able to participate. I don't think he even realizes how much joy that decision created in his students. Judging by the amount of presents purchased (seriously, thousands), the smiles and excitement, this event is a "keeper". Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible and a smashing success! We have actually provided feedback to Mr. Geissler for some additions and small tweaking we would like to do for next year already! For example, we really need a third day to allow for some time between classes and in case a class runs over a little on their time. Fingers crossed that we can have it during the day again and with 3 days!
If you would like to drop an email to Mr. Geissler to thank him for allowing this event, I think that would mean a lot. Also, please thank
Mrs. Altieri, Mrs. LaRosa (in the office) and Mr. Petty for being the behind the scenes "Elves". Hope everyone enjoys the gifts, but especially the smiles purchasing those gifts on their own gave to the students.
Oh, and if your gift is signed, From: Debbie, or Jenn or Roxann, Amy, Karen, etc. it is actually from your child. We were a bit delirious after all that shopping and wrapping! Enjoy.....

SILENT AUCTION ITEM COLLECTION |
Seeking donations of items
Middle Gate Elementary School's PTA will be hosting a Silent Auction at our "Parent's Night Out" fundraiser. This fundraiser, held at Rock Ridge Country Club in Newtown, will raise money for the Middle Gate PTA. The PTA funds programs such as school assemblies, grade enrichment, and cultural arts programs. We have purchased smart board add-ons, picnic tables, shelves for classroom libraries, educational games, a shed for the Phys Ed department so they may purchase additional sports equipment. We are looking to make some great improvements for this year. Please help us achieve our goals for Middle Gate.
We are currently seeking donations of items and services to be auctioned off at the event. If you are able to donate please let us know. It doesn't matter how big or how small, all donations are gladly accepted and greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Kelley Michael kelleymmichael@charter.net or 203-770-1276. We thank you for your consideration and your generosity.
