Greetings Fairchild Challenge Educators!

We hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving break with your loved ones!

Some quick reminders:

We thank all of you that took part in our virtual student workshop for Challenge 3: Miami, My Garden. If you were unable to join, recordings are available for viewing on the Student Workshop webpage. Entries for Challenge 3 are due from December 5^th-11^th. Please complete the entry form to submit your entries!

Data for Challenge 4: Growing Beyond Earth is due on December 9^th. If you wish to take part in Trial 2, please complete the entry form to submit your proposal using the provided template.

Entries for National Challenge: The Next NASA Mission Patch are due from November 28^th - December 4^th. Please complete the entry form to submit your entries!

Register now for our upcoming Teacher workshops:
School Garden Leadership Training. This hands-on workshop covers basics of developing and leading a school garden program. This workshop will be taking place on December 10^th from 10:00am-3:00pm at the garden. Register now through Frontline.

Teaching BioMATH. Learn how simple mathematical models can be simulated to address these questions about our native bromeliads. This workshop will be taking place on January 7^th from 10:00am - 3:00pm at the garden. Register now for PD. Teachers who complete this form will be notified when the M-DCPS Frontline registration is open so that you may register for MPP if you are interested.

School Garden Leadership

December 10, 2022 - 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

This hands-on workshop covers basics of developing and leading a school garden program, with special emphasis on growing, harvesting, tasting, and celebrating edible garden crops. Workshop presentation, activities, demonstrations, and resources will cover three focus areas as follows 1) gardening knowledge and skills; 2) supporting garden-to-classroom connections; and 3) developing leadership skills for engaging students and the school community with the garden!

Teaching BioMATH

January 7, 2023 - 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Researchers have been collaborating with Fairchild to study and model aspects of ecology and evolution in Florida native bromeliads. Learn how simple mathematical models can be simulated to address these questions about our native bromeliads. Join us for a fun and approachable blend of mathematics and biology inside and outside the classroom. Course taught by visiting researchers Rachel Jabaily Ph.D. , (Prof. of Biology & Ecology, Colorado College) and Erin Bodine, Ph.D. (Prof. of Mathematics, Rhodes College).
