Middle School November Updates and Events

Greetings Fairchild Challenge Educators!

We hope all is well with you as you back into the swing of the new school year.

Some quick reminders:

Entries for Challenge 2: Green Treasures are due from November 14^th -20^th. Please complete the entry form to submit your entries!

Entries for National Challenge: Mission Patch are due from November 28^th -December 4^th. Please complete the entry form to submit your entries!

Our Lizards on the Loose teacher workshop is coming up on December 3rd, 2022. Registration is now open and will close on November 30^th. This workshop is strongly recommended for any teachers who want to take part in Challenge 5: Lizards on the Loose! Register now!

We invite you and your students to participate in our Growing Beyond Earth: Chat with a Scientist on November 17th. Teachers participating in GBE will receive an invitation a week before each chat with instructions on how to participate.

We will be continuing our series of student workshops focused on video making to help your students complete their submission for Challenge 3: Miami, My Garden. The workshops will be led by Richard Kern of Odyssey Earth. Register here!

Research in the Classroom

How do we turn casual observations into a well-designed research project? Using MDCPS pacing guides, we will learn how to think about real-world problems and develop and test hypotheses from our questions. Important aspects of this process that we will explore: How to navigate literature searches; How to develop experimental design; How to showcase our students’ work at conferences and science fairs, in journals, and source funding for these opportunities.
