Dear (new!) 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Families,
Mazel tov-- we did it! We hope you're gearing up for a fun and restorative summer!
In this email, you'll find our summer reading assignment, our supplies list, locker set up information, and our Middle School Handbook. Just TRY to contain your excitement! Here is all of our information in one link; if you prefer to read it without the link, the same information appears below.
-
Here is our letter about Middle School required summer reading, for students going into grades 5, 6, 7, and 8. Students in all grades must read TWO books of their own selection and based on their own interest. When school starts in September, students will complete an in-class writing assessment in their LA classes during the opening weeks of school. There is NO written component to the summer reading assignment this year: just read those two books!
Get a head start on purchasing your child's school supply kit, which is now available for purchase, customized with the exact required materials for each student's JKHA class grade. Order Online at www.shopttkits.com; use Account #: 50483; Order before June 19th!
- Students can "move in" to their lockers for next year from 9:30-11:30 am on Friday, August 28th and or from 9:30-11:30 am on Monday, August 31st.
- Almost all students will get new locker assignments this coming school year and will need to get their locker number from Ms. Bohbot in the Middle School office.
- If your child wants to set up his or her locker in those last days of August, please go to the Middle School office first to receive their new locker number assignment.
- All students in grades 6, 7 and 8 are responsible for bringing their own locks (although minhag in the Middle School is few people lock their lockers...).
-
As a reminder, locker set up before school is not necessary, as students will have time to set up the first day of school. No need for kids to pressure you to do this!
-
As 6th graders will have lockers again, but students should feel free to follow their 5th grade locker set up from this year. Another good option is putting periods 1, 2 in one drawer, periods 3, 4, 5 in the next, and periods 6, 7 in the last. (6-7!!)
Finally, here is our Middle School Handbook for the 2025-2026 school year, which can help families and students-- both new and veteran!-- learn more about our Middle School culture and policies. (We will update it and resend over the summer, but this is our current version.) In particular, I encourage parents new to the Middle School to read our dress code policy, our cell phone policy and about KushnerChromeCare, which is our in-school student Chromebook insurance policy, which you may choose to enroll in for your child to protect against Chromebook breakage.
Looking forward to another amazing year with your children! Have a wonderful summer!
Warmly,
Ariel Levenson
