Dear Middle School Families,

Our Middle School community should be so proud for making it to the Friday before a much deserved break! I know the fall has been difficult, and I appreciate our community’s efforts throughout.

As you read in the Community Health Update that went out on Wednesday, among close contacts, there were no additional COVID-19 cases in the Middle School. In other words, this MS COVID-19 case was an isolated case; there was no community transmission in the MS.

This means our policies and protocols—from the "Big Three" to our safe use of spaces—are working and effective.

All of that said, the entire Middle School being fully remote was not ideal, and we’ve been looking at how we can minimize the likelihood of this happening again (with the caveat that we of course can’t control what happens on a state-level).

The reason we had to go fully online was because the number of faculty and staff who were deemed close contacts.

As a result:

  • We are reviewing our contact tracing protocols.
  • We are re-evaluating our distribution of support staff and other adults who support the learning in our classroom spaces.
  • While we already know where our MS faculty and staff are throughout the day, we’re adding an extra layer of daily logging to understand better how they’re interacting with the space and the people in it.
MOVING FORWARD: THE SCHEDULE
We are keeping with the planned rotation, and extending the Stage 3 rotation into February to ensure an equal distribution of on-campus days for each of our grades. In other words, the days you have for your child being on-campus have not changed—there are now additional weeks added to the schedule to make up for missed days on campus.

I hope you all have a restful break.

Please stay safe, and I will be so excited to welcome everyone back on November 30!
