Middle School Youth WINTER NEWSLETTER
45 Youth Signed up for our 2019 Summer Trips
Our 2019 Summer Trips are set and we have 18 High School youth headed to Hillside, CO for our Compass Points Backpacking Adventure Trip and 27 Middle and High School youth headed to Duluth, MN for our Service Learning Mission Trip. It is exciting to see so many youth engaged in ministry here at Our Savior’s Lutheran and ready to grow in their faith while challenging themselves in Colorado or serving the people of Duluth, MN. We look forward to sharing more about these trips in the coming months and to inviting the congregation to be a part of ministry through prayer, service, and support.
Advent Worship
Confirmation students are invited to conclude confirmation in December by attending weekly Advent Worship from 6:40 to 7:15 p.m. in the Celebrate Center (December 5, 12, and 19)
Confirmation In January
6th grade will be doing a program called Everyday Samaritan. This is a 5-session unit on learning about and practicing empathy, inclusion, and being a good friend.
7th and 8th graders will each choose a 5-week elective that they will attend on Wednesday nights during January. These have not been chosen yet, but last year they included things like Worship Workshop with Andrea Nesdahl and Denny Gale, Peer Ministry Preview with Trish Syverson, Woodshop Ministry with Pr. Tim, and my Neighbor is Muslim with Joan Bacon. You can look out for the opportunity to sign up for these on Sign Up Genius soon.
Upcoming Events
Join us Sunday, Dec 16 from 5-7 PM for our first annual Middle School Christmas Games and White Elephant Gift Exchange . We will begin at 5 PM with a meal and then move on to fun Christmas Games in the gym. Later, we will exchange our gifts.
How the gift exchange works: Each youth is asked to bring a wrapped gift. Please don’t spend more than $10 on this gift as we value creativity over monetary value. After we eat dessert, we will draw numbers and begin to select gifts. Those with later numbers will have the option of opening a new gift or stealing a gift someone else has already selected. If your gift is taken, you will have the option of opening a new gift or stealing someone else’s gift (except the one that was just taken).
  • There is no cost to this event and OSL is providing the meal.
  • Parents/Caring Adults: We are looking for chaperones to help supervise and serve food.
