Municipal Update, May 2026

Keeping you informed with the latest from the Municipality of Middlesex Centre.

Community Improvement Plan (CIP) Funding Available

Middlesex Centre is offering funding to support local businesses and affordable housing projects through its Community Improvement Plan (CIP).

The CIP looks to revitalize areas across the municipality by providing grants and other funding to local businesses. Programs are available for industrial and commercial projects such as façade and signage improvements, accessibility upgrades, energy efficiency retrofits, and more.

New this year, funding is available to support affordable housing projects, including additional residential units (ARUs) such as in-law suites or garden suites.

To learn more and apply, visit the municipal website or contact Planning Services.

Additional Residential Units

An Additional Residential Unit (ARU) is a self‑contained living space added to an existing home or property. This could be a basement apartment, a unit within your house, or a small detached unit on the same lot as your primary residence.

If you’re thinking about adding additional units to your property, our Additional Residential Units (ARU) Guide walks you through what’s allowed, what approvals you’ll need, and what to expect along the way.

At Work in the Community

Summer infrastructure work is underway in Middlesex Centre.

Kitchen renovations are underway at Coldstream Community Centre. Visitors can look forward to new flooring, cupboards, and countertops. The Komoka and Delaware community centres will also see updates later this year. Of note: The Komoka Community Centre Parking Lot will be closed June 8 to 12 for repaving.

The busy road work season has also started. Reconstruction of Vanneck Rd. between Egremont Dr. (CR22) and Medway Rd. begins in early June. Culvert replacements on Poplar Hill Rd., McEwen Dr., Fernhill Dr., and Gold Creek Dr. will be phased throughout the summer, starting in late May.

As a reminder, you can find current and planned road closures and construction on the Municipal511.ca website.

Keep Dogs on Leash when in Public Places

Among the most frequent complaints we receive at the municipal office are dogs running off-leash at parks. Whether you are in a park, on a trail or on a sidewalk, dogs must be leashed unless you are in a designated Dog-Off-Leash Area. These rules, found in the Animal Control By-law, apply at all times, and even if “no one else is around.”

Dog-Off-Leash Areas can be found in Weldon Park and along the Ilderton Rail Trail. Look for the “Paws in Parks” signs indicating where these areas begin and end. Your dog must be supervised and under your control at all times when visiting a Dog-Off-Leash Area.

Remember that all dogs living in Middlesex Centre must have a valid dog tag. Tags are issued for the lifetime of your dog at no charge. And please, pick up after your dog and properly dispose of any waste!

Help Keep Our Roads Safe on Collection Day

Just a quick reminder to keep garbage and recycling bins off the roadway. Placing them in a safe, accessible spot near the curb helps keep our streets safe and makes collection easier for everyone.

Position your bins at the curb or edge of the road surface with the wheels facing your home and the arrow on the lid pointing toward the street. Be sure to leave at least 1 metre (3 feet) of space on all sides and keep clear of parked cars, fences, trees, and hockey and basketball nets.

Water Testing Volunteers Needed

We’re looking for residents to volunteer their homes to test for lead in the municipality’s drinking water system. Tests take 5 minutes plus a little preparation time and use less than 5 litres of water.

If you can help, please contact the municipal office to arrange an appointment, and include your address in your message.

Returning volunteers are welcome!
