Time to Check Your Septic System

If your home is on a septic system, fall is a good time to think about routine maintenance before winter arrives.

The Ontario Building Code requires septic tanks to be pumped when sludge reaches one-third of the tank’s capacity. Rather than measuring sludge levels regularly, a general guideline is to have your septic tank pumped about every five years.

Fall is also a good time to have the tank’s inlet and outlet inspected before winter arrives. Taking care of maintenance now could help you avoid an unexpected septic problem when the weather is less cooperative.

Questions? Contact Middlesex Centre's Building Department.

Winter Ready: Parking and Mailbox Reminders

Our snowplows are getting ready to roll. Make sure you’re ready for winter weather too.

No Overnight Parking – There is no parking on municipal roads between 2:00 and 7:00 a.m. from Labour Day to Victoria Day. The restriction on overnight parking applies at all times, even when there is no snow in the forecast.

Bring in Sports Nets & Check Mailboxes – Remember to bring in your basketball and hockey nets from the edge of the road and out of the way of snowplows. If you are on a rural road, check that your mailbox is securely attached and its post is solidly in the ground.
