$5-million in open space bond funding was overwhelmingly approved by almost 80% of Middletown voters at the polls yesterday ! This money will be used to protect and steward additional natural and agricultural lands in Middletown. Congratulations!

The preservation of open space with this bond funding is important for our local environment, the lower Connecticut River Valley region, and for the residents of Middletown. A state study found that properties adjacent to parks and open space see a 20 percent increase in property value. In addition, preserved natural lands reduce overall municipal costs, are beneficial to both physical and mental health, and lead to an overall healthier environment with habitat for native animals and plants, and mitigation of pollution and the effects of climate change.

The Middlesex Land Trust looks forward to working together with the City of Middletown - and all of the municipalities in our region - to protect and steward additional open space and farm lands in our communities now, and for future generations.
