National Night Out

Are you ready for one of the year's biggest community parties? National Night Out is back, and the Middletown Township Police Department is excited to invite you and your neighbors to celebrate!

On August 7th, the Police Department will recognize this annual, national event with a block party in the Municipal Center Parking lot from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Community members and families are encouraged to talk with staff and meet police officers while enjoying activities, demonstrations, and other festivities set up by the Police Department and local business partners. Some of last year's favorite activities will return, including the sports and games, K9 demonstration, child fingerprinting, and temporary tattoos. New additions include a Goodnoe's ice cream and food truck and a petting zoo!

The Township asks that all attendees please park your cars at the Flowers Mill shopping center. Proceeds for National Night Out will go to Shop with a Cop, an event where cops take disadvantaged children shopping to buy holiday gifts for their families (see below for more information). Additional information can be found on the Police Department's Facebook page or by contacting Officer Melissa Robison at 215-750-3876 or at [email protected]. The Police Department is looking forward to seeing you on August 2nd to help strengthen their partnership with the community!
Shop with a Cop

It may be summer, but it's never too early start helping out those in need for the holidays. Shop with a Cop is an annual program launched by the Middletown Township Police Department to help disadvantaged children purchase holiday presents for their families and loved ones. Now partnering with the Lower Southampton Police Department, police officers take children shopping at Target with a $100 gift card. Children are identified by guidance counselors, school employees, and private submissions. Each child is then paired with a police officer who will help them select gifts and budget their donated funds. Children and their families will also have the opportunity to have breakfast with the police officers and have a visit with Santa.

Every dollar donated is truly helpful to these children in bringing joy to their families for the holidays. Any individual, business, or organization is encouraged to donate. Monetary donations are received through the Middletown Community Foundation. The Police Department is also seeking donations of Christmas stockings and wrapping paper as well.

For any questions, please contact Officer Melissa Robison at [email protected] or 215-750-3876.
Public Works Retirements

This summer, Middletown Township bids farewell to two long-time members of the Department of Public Works.

Rick Wendel served as Director of Public Works since 2006, and he worked for the Township for nearly 40 years. Beginning his career in the Water and Sewer Department, he moved to Public Works after his first department was sold. During his time in charge, Rick steered the Department through countless storms, road projects, and construction projects. He even oversaw the Department as they moved into a new building. Retired as of the end of June, Rick now spends his time with his family and young grandchildren while also having time for his love of fishing, gardening, and cooking.

Also retiring is long-time secretary Ginny Frasco. Ginny first began with the Township in the Licenses and Inspections Department, and she has served in Public Works for over twenty years. Ginny has been a true asset to the Department while completing and assisting in tasks such as budget preparation, equipment purchases, and creating snow and storm reports. She also spent much of her time serving as an important point of contact for residents. No matter how busy she was, Ginny always had time to deliver a high level of service to the community. This was especially true during snow or other storms when Ginny would assist residents from the Emergency Operations Center. Even though Ginny retires this month, she will still continue interacting with Middletown residents as she and her husband Charles teach their line dancing class through the Parks and Recreation Department.

Both of these public servants have dedicated decades to the residents of the Middletown community, and we are very grateful for all they have done. On behalf of the whole Township, congratulations to Rick and Ginny on their well-deserved retirements!
