Snow Emergency Information

& Winter Safety Reminders

Parking Restrictions

During a declared Snow Emergency, parking is prohibited on all Township streets to allow Public Works crews and emergency vehicles to safely and efficiently clear roadways.

Vehicles parked on the street during a Snow Emergency may be ticketed.

Residents are encouraged to remove vehicles from the roadway as soon as possible to assist snow removal operations.

Snow Removal Operations

The Middletown Township Public Works Department is actively implementing the Township’s Snow Management Plan, with plowing prioritized as follows:

  • Primary roads and emergency routes
  • Secondary (collector and through) roads
  • Residential streets, cul-de-sacs, and dead ends

Crews will continue plowing and treating roadways as conditions allow. We appreciate residents’ patience as operations progress throughout the storm.

Sidewalk & Property Responsibilities

Property owners are reminded of the following winter maintenance requirements:

  • Sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours after the end of a snowstorm.
  • Basketball hoops and other items should be removed from the public right-of-way to prevent damage
  • Pushing snow into the street is prohibited by Township ordinance
  • Residents are encouraged to assist by clearing snow around nearby fire hydrants (3-foot clearance)

 Travel & Safety Tips

  • Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary
  • Watch for icy conditions, fallen trees, and downed power lines
  • If travel is unavoidable, keep emergency supplies in your vehicle and allow extra time
  • When shoveling snow, pace yourself and take frequent breaks to avoid overexertion. Dress warmly, stay hydrated, and listen to your body - especially during heavy or wet snow.

Power Outage Preparedness

If you experience a power outage:

  • Contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141 or visit their website
  • Do not call 9-1-1 for power outages or general information
  • Never use grills, generators, or fuel-burning devices indoors due to carbon monoxide risks
