Bill Oettinger Resigns

On August 12th, Supervisor Bill Oettinger announced his resignation from the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors. His resignation comes as he and his family moved outside the Township.

First elected in 2013, Oettinger has made a career of serving the community. He is a longtime member of the Parkland Fire Company, and he works as the Lower Southampton Township Fire Marshal. He also served on the School Board of the Neshaminy School District from 2009 to 2013. As a member of the Board of Supervisors, Oettinger was known as a strong advocate for emergency services. In his parting words to the community, he thanked the staff and called for increased volunteerism in the local fire companies.

"It takes special people to step up and serve their community," said Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Tosti of Oettinger. "I want to thank Bill for all he has done to serve this community, and I wish him luck in all he does in the future."

Welcome Doug Downing

Middletown is pleased to welcome Doug Downing as its newest member of the Board of Supervisors. He was appointed at the September 3rd Board meeting and will serve until December 31, 2019 to fill the unexpired term of Bill Oettinger.

Downing grew up in Middletown and graduated from Conwell-Egan High School. He served 8 years in the United States Army Reserves, earning the rank of sergeant. He holds both a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in engineering management from Pennsylvania State University.

Currently working as an Electrical Project Engineer for Princeton Plasma Physics Lab, Downing once actually worked for Middletown taking care of our parks as a seasonal grass cutter. Downing currently lives in Langhorne with his wife and two children.

Skate Park Construction Underway

On August 12, a crowd gathered at Middletown Community Park as the Township officially broke ground on a new 8,600 square foot skate park.

Funded by a combination of Township investment, private contributions, and a grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the new facility is designed by local firm 5th Pocket Skateparks. It replaces the once-popular skate park that was damaged years ago during a storm.

Addressing those gathered for the event, Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Tosti stated, "This is an important investment in the youth of this community. While many residents already enjoy our great fields and facilities, the Township is committed to expanding opportunities for those with many different interests."

The skate park is expected to open before the end of October.

From the Permit Corner

Welcome to the Permit Corner, where you can find out about all the major construction projects throughout the community.

Middletown will soon have a new Wawa after the Board of Supervisors approved the final plans at the September 3rd meeting. The new 5,000 square foot store will be constructed on Old Lincoln Highway across from the Penndel Middletown Emergency Squad. The Wawa will also install 16 fueling stations. The entrance, currently where the emergency signal is located, will be improved to include turn lanes and a traffic signal.

After receiving its approval from the Township, the developer can begin construction after it obtains permits from PennDOT. The Wawa is expected to be completed in summer 2020.
