COMMISSIONERS COURT - February 3, 2026

TEXAS A&M AGRILIFE

The court received a report on the My Preparedness Initiative (MyPI). MyPI is a nationally recognized youth preparedness program launched in 2025 through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. It provides teenagers with hands-on training in disaster preparedness, emergency response, leadership, and community resilience. The program includes FEMA-certified CERT training, optional certifications such as CPR/AED, and a service component that helps students strengthen emergency readiness in their own households and others in the community. MyPI has received multiple national awards and is designed to be delivered in schools, youth programs, and community settings across Texas.

CEMETERY

The court approved policies and procedures for the Fairview Cemetery columbarium. Columbarium niches are available for $950, with a $250 fee due at the time of inurnment. Niches are intended for human cremains only and may hold up to two urns. All niche openings and inurnments must be performed by Fairview Cemetery Staff and require proper documentation, including a certificate of cremation. Niche reservations must be paid in full, are non-transferable without notice, and grant the right to inurn rather than ownership. Engraving is required and limited to the individual’s name and dates of birth and death. Artificial decorations are prohibited, with limited allowances for live flowers. Policies are also in place for temporary or permanent removal of cremains, including required approvals, applicable fees, and refund provisions.

WARRANT SERVICES

The court approved the purchase of six body cameras for the Warrant Services Division. Body cameras are a crucial part of law enforcement equipment, not only to protect members of the community, but law enforcement officers themselves. The cameras are provided by Axion and are funded via the previously approved department budget.

FIRE MARSHAL

The court approved the purchase of a K-9 unit to assist with arson investigations. The K-9 is specially trained to detect ignitable liquids that may have been used in arson. An officer with the Fire Marshal's Office is being trained to handle the dog. The K-9 and associated costs are being paid for thanks to a donation from Chevron. Separately, the bomb dog that was approved last fall has been delivered and is currently in the final stages of training prior to deployment.

CONSTABLES

The court approved hiring deputy constables for precincts 3 and 4 to address growing service demands and community concerns. The additional staffing is intended to improve response times, strengthen public safety support, and ensure more efficient delivery of court-related services for residents.
