COMMISSIONERS COURT - January 20, 2026

UNITED WAY

The court heard a presentation from United Way of Midland about Project Blueprint, a leadership initiative designed to prepare leaders for service on nonprofit boards. The program focuses on cultivating a pipeline of board leaders through education in governance, leadership, financial management, strategic planning, and nonprofit operations. Upon completion, participants are connected with local nonprofit boards and committees. Pictured: this year's Project Blueprint graduates.

ELECTIONS

The court approved a new voter registration system to replace the county’s previous system, which was no longer functional within the State of Texas voter registration framework. The new system, Voter Focus, will improve how Midland County conducts elections by increasing efficiency, enhancing voter and election management, and ensuring the Elections Office can meet required state deadlines. Implementation will begin immediately following the March primary election.

ROAD AND BRIDGE

The court approved the creation of two new construction inspectors who will oversee all phases of the inspection process of driveway and road projects throughout the county. This job is currently being performed by third party contractors, so the creation of these staff positions will result in a net savings for taxpayers.

CAPITAL PROJECTS

The court received reports regarding capital projects that are ongoing throughout the county. This includes updates on the new detention center, courthouse annex, juvenile facility, and more. These projects are in various stages of planning, design, and construction.

HORSESHOE

The court received the annual report from the Midland County Horseshoe Arena. This included the full report of more than 200 events that took place throughout the year and welcoming more than 200,000 visitors. The report also shared information about upcoming projects on the horizon for the Horseshoe.

COURT SCHEDULE

The next regularly scheduled Commissioners Court will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2025. Meetings are held in the Commissioners Court, on the first floor of the Midland County Courthouse, located at 500 N. Loraine St. The meeting is livestreamed at the county website, co.midland.tx.us.
