Cross State Shoot Out
Houndslake Country Club
August 24 & 25
Another perfect golf day at Houndslake Country Club.  A little overcast and mild temperature of around 75 degrees to get the day started.  Competition was in the air and who knew so many birdies were going to be flying around.

The lead match for the day started at 9:00am with Midlands Charlotte Twitty and Melissa Meetze paired against Low Country's Maggie Marlow and Terrie Allemang.  The Midlands came out of the box ready to play making birdie on two of the first 6 holes and going 4 up after 6.  Throwing a couple more birdies on the board on the back nine to sweep the match for the Midlands.  ( Midlands 3 , Low Country 0 )

Match 2 was battle between Low Country's Jenn Weiland and Rachel Wyatt vs. Up State's  Taylor Lance and Kadi Meldrum.  Between the 4 players there were 6 birdies in the group.  Low Country's Rachel Wyatt carded 3 of them in a row on holes 14-16 to secure back nine and total points.  ( Low Country 2, Up State 1)

The Up State squared off with the Midlands in the next match with Lucy Loomis/Lisa Kurjan vs. Suzann Bartley/Natalie Huff, respectively.  This match went consistently back and forth on the front nine, but then the Midlands stepped it up on the back nine to take all three points for the Midlands.   ( Up State 0, Midlands 3)

Match 4 was Midland's Cathy Hill/Hope Giordano vs. Low Country's Carol Hammond/Jessica Daugherty.  Hill/Giordano have been on fire
this weekend and it continued in the final round.  Going 6 up after nine holes, Hammond/Daugherty never gave up.  Winning a few holes on the back  nine to bring the match all 18 holes.  Giordano was the only player on the 18th green in regulation and drained a 70' putt from the front of the green to a back pin for birdie to secure all three points for the Midlands Team.
 ( Low Country 0,  Midlands 3)

The 9:40am group was Up States' players Kristen Rooke and Carol Pincavage vs Low Country's Sara Youngner and Renee Rezzetano.  Up State came out of the gate winning two of the first three holes, then the Low Country changed gears and took charge.  Winning 7 holes in a row with Youngner drilling one in for eagle on the Par 5 7th hole.  Low Country took all points in this match. ( Up State 0, Low Country 3)

The final match of the day was Midlands' Cecilia Fournil/Mandy Pierce vs. Up State's Kate Burns/Abby Driscoll.  The Up State took an early lead and just kept building on it throughout the round not giving the Midlands a hole.  The Up State took all three points.( Midlands 0, Up State 3)

An exciting day and some great golf.  All players combined, 20 birdies and an eagle were made throughout the day and 42 for the weekend.  What a fun weekend of getting to know players throughout the state at such an amazing venue, Houndslake Country Club.  In the words of Nancy Lopez,  "Do your best one shot at a time and then move on.  Remember that golf is just a game."  Congratulations to all the players for fighting hard and representing....until next year.
