Worship Sundays at 10:00am

  • Livestream Worship
  • In-person in the Sanctuary

Read John 10:11-18 to prepare.
Hello Church Family,

As a church we have worked hard this past year to find creative ways to worship, to support and encourage one another, and to continue our strong mission driven focus. It has been difficult to “show up” and engage virtually, remain faithful, and continue to make disciples for Jesus Christ, but dear friends, you are strong faithful people that have continued to meet the challenge. Every day has not been perfect and at times we may not have felt very strong, faithful, or connected, but God has continued to surround us and walk with us during this time. Our worship series has been Love Your Neighbor. This too takes really hard work! But we can do hard things and love others in such a powerful way that others see God’s love flowing through us as individuals and as a Church. One of the ways we have done this in the past is through our Church Has Left the Building Event. PLEASE sign up, we need you!
On May 2nd our congregation will serve the South Lyon community and become the hands and feet of Christ.  Our plan is to provide needed services i.e. painting, planting, yard work, etc. to residents and organizations in our community needing a helping hand. We will also have outreach projects and activities available to do at home as well as some that will take place right at the church. In years past we have been able to do things like clearing a cemetery of debris; painting the gazebo at Paul Baker Memorial Park; painting and clearing gardens at Witch’s Hat Depot; cleaning up downtown and the rail-trail; clearing the gardens at senior & rehab homes; projects with Active Faith & VFW. The Mission Outreach Team is busy working on projects and services in which we can all participate.
The entire congregation, toddlers through senior citizens, are encouraged to sign up at https://slfumc.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/32/responses/new
We will start to gather around 9:30am for coffee and a light grab-and-go breakfast and to meet with our teams and leaders. Prayer, music, and commissioning will begin at 10:00am and project work will begin around 10:15am. Afterwards, the teams will gather back at the church for a light lunch.
I am so excited about all the work that our Mission Outreach Team has put into helping us be the living word of God.  In the Gospel of Luke when Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment he said “You must love the Lord your God with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.” There are examples of acts of Love for our community for all age and skill sets on our website. No matter what you think, we need you to be present. If it has been a while since you have been to the church this is an event you do not want to miss. We will be outside for our gatherings before and after project work, plus most of our projects are outside. We need you and your family, even if it is to be there for the commissioning in the parking lot for prayer over our ambassadors of love as they leave to share God’s love in abundant ways in our community.
This is just one powerful example of how South Lyon First UMC continues to Christ Focused, Spirit Filled, and MISSION driven!

Love and Peace in Christ,

Prison Ministry Program - May 1
On Sunday, April 25th from 8:30 am-9:30 am, the Encounters Sunday school class is hosting Rev. April Mission of the Month
GOD’S COUNTRY COOPERATIVE PARISH is 7 churches in four counties that banded together to survive and thrive where resources are miles apart; in an area of harsh winters, low employment opportunities, and poverty levels at or below the national and state averages. Your gifts to GOD’S COUNTRY COOPERATIVE PARISH are NOT used to send our volunteers on mission trips, but are used to help support the actual mission of GCCP: the administrative needs, interns, materials, and additional programs that have been added over the years. Please consider showing financial love for our neighbors in the Upper Peninsula or dropping off NEW socks and underwear for the children. Donations may be placed the the church drop-box, or in one of the bins in the parlor or by the front entrance by May 1st.
Middle School Mission Experience - July 16-18

Contact Kendi to sign up!

We're excited to head to the UP to serve God's Country Cooperative Parish! The trip will cost $300-350 per participant and is open to completed 9th graders through completed 12th graders. Our projects will be similar to Mountain Top but tailored to participants' skill set. We're also looking for adult chaperones. Registration is open until May 1. Contact Kendi to sign up!
