MESSAGE FROM PASTOR NICK

I am certainly feeling the heat. On Monday the 29th, I moved into the church parsonage to a hot and humid 94 degree day. Since that Monday, temperatures have continued to swelter in the mid 90’s, making this move the hottest move I have ever done. But that isn’t the only way I am feeling the heat. For a lot of you, this is the first time hearing from me as your Pastor. It creates in me a sense of responsibility to make sure that my first words to you are meaningful and tell you a bit about myself.

So let me begin with this; everything I say and do while I have the privilege of serving you will be done with deep love in my heart. I consider myself blessed to be called into ministry and feel incredibly blessed to be serving at SLFUMC. As you get to know me, you will see that is how I will lead. I will lead with joy in my heart, and with a desire to build upon the great church community you have created. South Lyon is an incredible community, continually growing, yet still with a small-town feel, and I am excited to get out into that town, and brag about SLFUMC.

Over the next couple of months, the weather is most likely going to stay hot. I’m not too happy about that. What I am happy about though, it that over the next few months, I’ll be getting to know you. I am thankful for God’s presence in this time of transition and cannot wait to see where the Holy Spirit will guide us together. I look forward to worshiping, serving, and growing alongside you as we discover together what God has in store for SLFUMC.

Michigan Conference District Changes

The 2026 Michigan Annual Conference approved a new district structure, reducing the number of districts from seven to four. This change is intended to strengthen connections between churches and steward conference resources more effectively.

The four districts are:

  • Greater Detroit District – Rev. Dr. Darryl Totty
  • Greater Southwest District – Rev. Dean Prentiss
  • Northern Skies District – Rev. Kristi Hintz
  • Central Shores District – Rev. John Kasper

For South Lyon First UMC, the biggest change is that we are now part of the Greater Detroit District. We welcome Rev. Dr. Darryl Totty as our new District Superintendent and look forward to his leadership and support.

We also celebrate Rev. LuAnn Rourke, who has been appointed Assistant to the Bishop. We are grateful for her faithful service and wish her well in this important new role.

Please join us in praying for our conference leaders as they guide the Michigan Conference into this new chapter of ministry.

SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM HELP

We still need drivers to help distribute packed lunches to locations in the community on Tuesday and Thursdays.

If you are willing to help, please sign up using the QR code.

We also need a lot of decorated lunch bags. Bags are provided in the church parlor. Please pick up the bags, take them home to decorate them, and return them to the same basket in the parlor.

We are also collecting individual macaroni-n-cheese cups and peanut butter in the basket in the parlor. We serve over 3,000 lunches over the summer, so your help is appreciated!
