MESSAGE FROM PASTOR NICK

I’ve officially finished my first full week here at SLFUMC! Let me just say, it has been a whirlwind. I’ve had the chance to meet many new faces, and I am looking forward to meeting many more. In the midst of this first week, one of the things I’ve realized is how much change can be both wonderful and absolutely exhausting. I wonder, do any of you feel the same way?

I bring this up because I realize that a new pastor can bring those same feelings: excitement, and for some, maybe even worry. Who is this guy? What does he believe? Is he going to change everything?

As I begin to serve this congregation, I realize just how blessed I am. God has called me to serve here, and God has called me to follow in the footsteps of pastors like Rev. Sondra Willobee and Rev. Mary Gibson. I am very much aware of their legacy, and I will look to honor them as we continue the vision they both shared with you.

In the weeks and months ahead, I encourage you to stop in and say hello. My office will have an open door, and most of the time you will probably find me in the hallway talking and generally being an extrovert. Come share stories with me about the history of our church, and tell me your hopes and dreams for the future. Tell me what you like to do for fun and what your greatest passions are. In turn, I’ll tell you mine, and we will begin to build a relationship that will hopefully be more wonderful than exhausting!

I look forward to meeting many of you for the first time this Sunday. I can say with certainty that this part of change will be wonderful. Where will God lead us together? In what ways will we grow as people and as a church? We don’t know the answer yet, but we will discover it together.
