Dear Friends,

What a meaningful and full weekend we shared at the 2026 Michigan Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church! Each year, clergy and lay members from across Michigan gather for worship, learning, discernment, celebration, and the important work of shaping our ministry together as United Methodists. This year’s theme, “Love Boldly,” invited us to reflect deeply on who we are and how we are called to live out our faith in today’s world.

I was grateful to attend alongside members of our church family—Rebecca, Robin, and Dave—who faithfully represented our congregation in the work of Annual Conference. We shared in meaningful worship, important conversations, and the joy of connecting with United Methodists from across the state. For me personally, it was also a gift to reconnect and spend time with dear clergy friends, sharing stories, laughter, encouragement, and the kind of holy friendship that sustains ministry. Sometimes conference reminds us that we are never serving alone.

One of the highlights of the weekend was hearing from guest teacher Dr. Ashley Boggan, historian and General Secretary of the General Commission on Archives and History. Dr. Boggan spoke about what she calls “Wesleyan Vile-tality”—a reclaiming of the passion, boldness, and holy energy that first shaped the Methodist movement. Drawing from the early Methodists, who were once mocked as “vile” because of their passionate faith and willingness to go beyond church walls, she reminded us that Methodism has always been at its best when we are deeply rooted in grace, willing to love courageously, and committed to transforming lives and communities. Rather than simply preserving a denomination, we are called to rekindle the Spirit-filled movement that first inspired it.

As many of you know, I am stepping away briefly this next weekend to celebrate a deeply personal joy—my goddaughter Megan’s wedding. She is marrying Hannah and it has been a joy to watch their love blossom over these last 6 years. What a gift to witness such love and sacred promise in the life of someone so dear to me.

My time out of my home has allowed many faithful volunteers to get a start on preparing the parsonage for the Bonsky family. I am grateful: grateful for our church’s representation, grateful for the wider connection of the United Methodist Church, and grateful for the reminder that God is still calling us to be a people who love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously as we follow Christ together.

Grace and peace,

Rev. Mary

No experience is necessary — just come ready to help outdoors! Please wear comfortable work clothes and closed-toe shoes.

Feel free to bring gardening or yard tools such as rakes, shovels, gloves, or wheelbarrows.

Thank you for helping us put the finishing touches on the home!

ON-BOARDING ACTIVITY

Church Family, You are invited to join in the On-Boarding activity for our new pastor, Nick Bonsky on June 16th 5:30-8:30PM in Fellowship hall.

On-Boarding provides a great opportunity for us to learn more about our new pastor and to advise him about our church. During this time together, we will be able to  share our possibilities and dreams, as well as our concerns for our church and community. As we navigate this transition in pastoral leadership, this process will allow us to constructively discuss our hopes and concerns as we welcome Pastor Nick.  These conversations will set us on the right path for fruitful ministry together.

We will be led through a process by an experienced On-Boarding facilitator, Rick Blunt, who has been certified to lead these meetings for the United Methodist Church. While the questions are being asked by the facilitator, Pastor Nick will not be present, so the data will be anonymous. Pastor Nick will then join us and address our advice and questions and be in dialogue with us so there is understanding.

I hope that you will be able to join in this On-Boarding experience.  We will serve a light dinner at the start of the evening, so please arrive by 5:30 in order to fix your plate and be ready to start the discussion at 5:45PM. We will end by 8:30. Please RSVP HERE or on the sign up sheet on the kiosk by Sunday, June 14th.

Come prepared to be honest about what’s on your heart as we live into the mission of the United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Sincerely, Rebecca Lundy
