Midweek Messenger . Jan 13

Dear Friends,

Our COVID-19 Response Team met this week to review our response to the latest numbers in our area and we are hopeful that if we continue safe practices as the vaccine becomes more widely available, we will be able to move back to in-person worship by the beginning of the Lent season.

In the meantime, Youth Group, teams, and small groups (who are not participating in aerobic activities) will be allowed to meet in the building with masks and social distancing (without food or drink.). Please call the office to schedule any use of the building.

Of course we will continue to offer many outdoor and on-line worship experiences during the transition to in-person worship and after in-person worship begins. Also, since we were able to safely host a blood drive with Versiti in December, we are planning another blood drive in February (please see details below). May we continue to show abundant love and care for one another in all that we do.

Love and peace, Rev. Mary

Blood Drive Sign-Up
The December 15th Versiti Blood Drive was a success!  Thank you to those that took the time to donate blood and save lives.
Results of the Blood Drive:
Collected: 39 units
First time donors: 28 (this is amazing!)
Lives impacted: 117

Because the blood drive was such a success, the Missions and Outreach Team has decided to host Versiti blood drives several times a year.  The next Versiti blood drive is scheduled for Thursday, February 25, 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.  Just click on the link OR scan the QR code with your phone.

Love With A ShoveL
Need help clearing snow? Our Love With A ShoveL Team will help you clear your snow if you are a South Lyon resident in need of help. Please contact the church office and register for this volunteer ministry, so that we have your contact information and can help you when a significant snow event (6 inches or more) happens in the future.
Gift Card Drop-Off
Did you know that each year, up to $3 billion worth of gift cards go unused? The Mission Outreach Team is happily accepting any unwanted gift cards year-round that we can use towards our many mission projects! Please mark the remaining balance on the card. You can mail them or use the drop box by Door #4 at the back of the church.
Email Jessica Mytty with questions.

Solicitation Love: Lent Devotions
“Casablanca.” “Sleepless in Seattle.” “An Affair to Remember.” “Titanic.”
“Romeo and Juliette.” “Me Before You.” “Jane Eyre.” “The Notebook.”
We’ve all seen and read unforgettable love stories. But we’ve lived and witnessed them, too.
As part of our 2021 Lenten theme, Love Your Neighbor, we’re compiling a devotional booklet of love stories from our congregation -- stories in which you were the giver, the recipient, or the witness. We need yours.
Please put them to paper, in 300-500 words. All of our love stories will be shared with the congregation as we remember the greatest example of love in history, when Jesus took the sins of the world upon himself and gave his life for the love of humankind.
Please submit them as a Word document to Joanna Firestone. The deadline is Feb. 7.
We’re also looking for submissions from our children, asking them to write a poem or short story, or perhaps color a picture that illustrates how we can show God’s love to others. Children’s submissions should be sent to Kendi Holcomb-Densmore electronically, or they can be left in the box outside of the front doors.
If you and/or your children plan to participate with a submission, please let Joanna or Kendi know now, so they can be watching for them.
Offering Envelopes for 2021
The books of offering envelopes for 2021 are now available in the green bin next to the drop-box at the rear fellowship hall door (door #4). Offering envelopes were printed for all families that used them in 2020. If you would like a book of offering envelopes and one was not provided in the bin, please email the Financial Secretary or call the church office.
Drive-Thru Communion
Rain or Shine (Snow or Sleet) ... Drive-Thru Communion will be served in the church parking lot on the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month. Enter the lot from the Dorothy Street entrance (at the back of the church) and wrap around to the front lot. Rev. Mary will begin broadcasting the Great Thanksgiving at 11AM using our 87.9 FM station. You must Tune-In from your car radio within 1,000 feet of the church. Sealed communion elements will be served with a mask.
