participants and volunteers
BIBLE READING CHALLENGE
Join the summer challenge! The Education Team is challenging us to read 3 stories from the bible each week during the summer. These bible stories are included below. Cross off the stories as you read them. There will be a prize for all participants at the end of the summer.
STORIES FROM THE SHORES
After the birth of Jesus, we move away from the child Jesus and encounter the man, the prophet, the teacher, the healer, and the trouble-maker Jesus! We discover, through a focus on the book of Mark, the ways in which Jesus models discipleship and calls for us to follow. In Mark, Jesus is almost constantly at the shoreline, in a boat, getting out of a boat or into one! No doubt, we are in this boat together as we seek to be the disciples Jesus has called us to be. This summer we encourage you to send us YOUR pictures from the shores. Please email your shoreline photos to Jen Denny.
PUB THEOLOGY
We are gathering at Third Monk Brewing this Wednesday, July 27th, at 7:30PM to discuss Listening to Trees and Slowing Down. Please come and join us for a cold beer (…or pop) and a lively conversation.

SUPER SPLASH FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Sunday is the last chance to sign up for this fun night on Friday, Aug 5th.
R.E. OLDS MUSEUM TOUR
The men’s group is inviting all who are interested to join them on Saturday, Aug. 6th for a guided tour of the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing. Phil Woodward, long-time volunteer at the museum, will be our tour leader. Admission is complimentary for our group that day.
The R.E. Olds Transportation Museum is one of the top-rated automotive museums in the United States. It houses a diverse collection of Oldsmobiles dating from 1897 to 2004. The 1897 Olds, one of four built that year, is on loan from the Smithsonian Institution.
This museum also houses automobilia covering nearly a century, including a nearly complete collection of Michigan license plates, early traffic signs and a working 1950s-era traffic signal. A bicycle collection shows the connection between early automakers and cycle makers who had the tools, know-how and creativity to successfully produce an automobile.
It also houses a collection of REO vehicles from the company that Ransom E. Olds created after he resigned from Oldsmobile. A well-known vehicle from that company is the REO Speed Wagon, from which a major musical band got its name.
Visit www.reoldsmuseum.org. for additional museum information.
Our plan is to meet at the church at 9AM that day and carpool together to be at the museum when it opens at 10AM. Those who wish to go to lunch as a group following the tour will find several nearby options.

For planning purposes, please let us know you are coming by adding your name(s) to the signup on the kiosk. Contact Dave Smith with questions. We hope you can join us for this awesome opportunity!

JULY MISSION OF THE MONTH

In 2013, pastoral staff from organizing churches and community leaders decided to create a non-profit entity with the mission to demonstrate the love of Jesus by providing caring and compassionate medical and dental services for the people of the South Lyon community who otherwise may not have access to it. Please prayerfully consider donating to this month’s mission.
PARSONAGE RENOVATIONS
Just like your home, our parsonage needs updating to bring it inline with community standards and the requirements of the Michigan Conference. The first project that the Trustees would like to tackle is providing a second full bath. This will make our parsonage a more comfortable option for current and future families. Right now there is only 1.5 baths, and the Michigan UMC Parsonage requirements are for 2 full baths. As you can imagine, this project alone will cost in excess of $15,000 and our current budget and capital funds cannot cover the cost. If you would like to contribute toward helping get our parsonage up to date, please consider making a donation indicating it is to be used for "parsonage renovations."
VIVIDA BANDA CONCERT AUG 11 6PM
