Dear Friends,

Today is the final Wednesday in the month of May. The weather has turned warm and sunny the last couple of days and I appreciate having my windows open, hearing God’s creation outside in my yard and watching as my peonies bloomed this week.

I have also been busy preparing church details, the parsonage for the Trustees to start projects in preparation for the Bonsky family, and for Annual Conference. This weekend Rebecca Lundy, the Fannings, and I will gather in Traverse City with representatives from every United Methodist Church in Michigan. I have included a link for more information about this year's Annual Conference and a way to watch live if you are interested. I would highly recommend any of the worship services or teaching opportunities.

I will work remotely the beginning of next week as the parsonage work continues. On June 6th I will be in Chicago for my goddaughter’s wedding. I will be in the office on the 9th and look forward to seeing you in worship on June 14th.

Everyone asks, “How are you doing?” If I am honest, in any day, I feel myself feeling all the feels: focused on critical situations with people or at the church in South Lyon; being pulled into ministry plans for the fall at Waterford; overwhelmed at times with the packing; and really proud of all the packing I have completed. I can be so sad about leaving here in one moment and joyful about the next chapter later in the same day. Again, I am feeling all the feels. Grief is like that, holding lots of truths at the same time, but no matter what I am feeling, I am confident that I am not alone and the the Holy Spirit is giving me strength and comfort for each moment in this journey. Love you all, Rev. Mary

PARSONAGE VOLUNTEER SIGN UP

Help us prepare the parsonage for its next family! We want to update the main bathroom and paint the interior before Pastor Nick, Leslie and Elijah arrive. If you are able to donate a few hours of time to help us, please sign up for the days you are available. Even an hour of your time will make a difference. Thanks in advance for your support!

We have two windows of time to do this work. The first window of opportunity is Wednesday, May 27th through Sunday, June 7th. During this time, we will be working on the main bathroom and painting as much of the house as possible - including the two guest bedrooms, the dining room, the kitchen and the half-bath.

If you are willing to help with this effort – mainly prepping and painting walls and ceilings – please use the link to the sign up at the top of this message to add your name to the schedule and let us know the times you are available. If you are willing to help with the bathroom, which will include replacing a fan, the lights, the countertop and faucet, in addition to the painting, please indicate that in the comments.

Looking ahead, the second window of work will be June 23rd through June 28th, after Rev. Mary has moved. We will be setting the schedule for that week based on the work that is completed during this first block of time.

This effort really is going to take a village, so we really appreciate any support you can offer!

SOUTH LYON PRIDE IN THE PARK JUL 11

Our church is proud to be a Gold Sponsor for South Lyon Pride in the Park! Please mark your calendars and join us on Saturday, July 11 from 12-4pm at McHattie Park. We need lots of volunteers to help us host a table and welcome our community to create a prayer ribbon, enjoy a popsicle, and learn about the many ways to get involved with our church. To volunteer, please contact Pam Ortner or use the QR Code below.

TINY HOME LANDSCAPING DAY

On Saturday, June 6th @ 9:30am, we need volunteers to help landscape the tiny home and the home next door in Detroit. Projects will include planting bushes, raking and spreading grass seed.

No experience is necessary — just come ready to help outdoors! Please wear comfortable work clothes and closed-toe shoes.

Feel free to bring gardening or yard tools such as rakes, shovels, gloves, or wheelbarrows.

Thank you for helping us put the finishing touches on the home!

ON-BOARDING ACTIVITY

Church Family, You are invited to join in the On-Boarding activity for our new pastor, Nick Bonsky on June 16th 5:30-8:30pm in Fellowship hall.

On-Boarding provides us a great opportunity for us to learn more about our new pastor and to advise him about our church. During this time together, we will be able to  share our possibilities and dreams, as well as our concerns for our church and  community. As we navigate this transition in pastoral leadership, this process will allow  us to constructively discuss our hopes and concerns as we welcome Pastor Nick.  These conversations will set us on the right path for fruitful ministry together.

We will be led through a process by an experienced  On-Boarding facilitator, Rick Blunt, who has been certified to lead these  meetings for the United Methodist Church. While the questions are being asked by the  facilitator, Pastor Nick will not be present, so the data will be anonymous. Nick will then join us and address our advice and questions and be in dialogue with us so there is understanding.

I hope that you will be able to join in this On-Boarding experience.  We will serve a light dinner at the start of the evening, so please arrive by 5:30 in order to fix your plate and be ready to start the discussion at 5:45. We will end by 8:30. Please RSVP HERE or on the sign up sheet on the kiosk by Sunday, June 14th.

Come prepared to be honest about what’s on your heart as we live into the mission of  the United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Sincerely, Rebecca Lundy
