Michigan Annual Conference Coming Soon!

The 2025 Michigan Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will take place May 30–June 1 in Traverse City.

The theme this year is “Unfinished: Growing Up and Into Christ”, and hundreds of clergy and lay members from across the state will gather for worship, learning, holy conferencing, and decision-making on matters that affect

the mission and future of the church.

We are blessed that several members of South Lyon First UMC will be attending as voting or observing participants, including Andrea Hungerford, Rebecca Lundy, Robin Fanning, Kim and David Ascher, and Rev. Mary McInnes. They will represent our congregation and connect with the broader United Methodist connection across Michigan.

After the conference, we’ll share highlights with the congregation, including key decisions, inspiring moments, and opportunities for continued ministry. In the meantime, you can follow along and even stream the sessions live by visiting:

 https://2025.michiganumc.org/

Please keep all conference attendees in your prayers as they gather with open hearts to discern God's calling for our church.

TIGERS & TINY HOMES

Take Me Out to the Ball Game… and a Tiny Home Tour!

Join us on Sunday, June 29, 2025, for a unique day of fellowship, fun, and service as we head downtown for Detroit Tigers & Tiny Homes!

We’ll kick off the afternoon with lunch and laughter at the church, then hop on a bus to Comerica Park to cheer on the Detroit Tigers as they take on the Minnesota Twins (first pitch at 1:40 PM). Our seats are in Section 117, offering a great view of the action!

But the day doesn’t end when the game does—we’ll follow up the ballpark excitement with a meaningful guided tour of the Cass Community Social Services Tiny Home Campus, a mission close to our hearts.

Your $95 ticket includes:

Roundtrip transportation from South Lyon to Detroit

Lunch before we depart

Trivia, prizes, and giveaways on the bus

A ticket to the game (Section 117)

A guided Tiny Home campus tour after the game

Space is limited, and sign-up alone does not reserve your ticket. Payment is required to secure your spot. Register using the QR code or the links below.

Let’s root for the home team and support a life-changing ministry—all in one unforgettable day!

CHURCH AND SOCIETY CORNER

In a recent Get Your Spirit in Shape podcast, Rev. Camille Henderson-Edwards explores how The United Methodist Church’s Social Principles call us to care for mental health as part of our Christian commitment to holistic well-being.

She shares personal reflections, challenges stigma, and lifts up Resolution 4207—our denomination’s call to support mental health ministries in our churches and communities.

As we honor Mental Health Awareness Month, this is a timely reminder that mental healthcare is part of our mission to love and serve others.

MEDICAL CLOSET UPDATES

Over the last year our Medical Supply Closet has loaned out more than 100 items to our community to better help people. We've also been able to donate 5 loads of items to World Medical Relief. Thank you.

Our small team is always looking for others to serve the closet. Volunteering - even a couple of hours every 6-8 weeks to collect, clean, and tag items - will make a dramatic difference. Reach out to David Ascher at dascher1267@gmail.com for more details.

We will help you help us and others, we promise!

We have a scooter that is looking for a home. The scooter does need a battery, but we will work with you to share more information. Please reach out to David if you have questions or if you know of someone who may like to have this scooter. Our long-term plan is to not keep this scooter in our rotation, and we'd like to find a good home for it.

YOGA

There will not be a yoga class on June 2nd.

Due to low attendance lately, if no one or if only one person is in attendance at 6PM, yoga will be cancelled.

WE ARE HIRING

Lindy Juergens, our Administrator for Generosity, is transitioning into retirement. Luckily she is not leaving our pews and she is planning on helping our next Administrator for Generosity learn their job. We appreciate all that Lindy has given as part of our staff. Please be in prayer for this exciting next step for her and for our SPRT to find the right replacement.

SLFUMC seeks an Administrator For Generosity, part-time (6-10 hrs/week), to manage contributions and donations and maintain records of giving. Being a good communicator in person and in writing, as well as prioritizing confidentiality, are important attributes to possess. Position responsibilities include processing all methods of giving, entering all contribution information into the church database, preparing giving and other related reports, and assisting church office staff and providing office coverage as needed. Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint (or similar software) is expected. Resumes should be sent to staffparishslfumc@att.net. For additional information contact Cathy Altenberger.
