Good afternoon dear friends,

Last week, the South Lyon faith community came together in a powerful display of unity and hope during the National Day of Prayer, hosted by Active Faith, held in their new building across the street from our church. Staff, volunteers, and board members of Active Faith, gathered with local pastors from eight different South Lyon churches, who joined hearts and voices to lift our community, nation, and world in prayer.

Each prayer was offered by a local pastor or faith leader, focusing on key areas in need of God’s guidance and grace:

  • For our Military - James Carey, Carey Law Offices and Active Faith Board Member, prayed for strength and safety for our military and their families.
  • For our Schools - Travis Whittaker, from Miles City, prayed for our students to have safe environments to learn, as well as guidance for teachers and administrators as the end of the school year comes to a close.
  • For Local Families Randy Weaks, First Baptist Church, prayed for strength, unity, and God’s provision for families in our community.
  • For Mental Health – a Deacon, from St. Joseph Church, lifted up prayers for those battling mental illness and for the professionals who care for them.
  • For the SickAlan Conrow prayed for healing, comfort, and peace for those facing illness.
  • For the Poor - Joe Muzzie, from Crossroads, prayed for those suffering economic difficulties and for our community to walk alongside of them.
  • For Global PeaceMary McInnes, First United Methodist Church, asked for God’s peace to reign in areas of conflict and division.
  • For Churches Blaine Dennison, Oakpointe Church, prayed for churches to be lights in the darkness and havens of truth and compassion.
  • For First Responders John Pajak, New Hudson Methodist Church, prayed for the safety, wisdom, and endurance of those who serve in times of emergency.

Additional prayers were offered for individuals with disabilities, and local businesses, reminding us all of the many areas where faith and prayer continue to make a difference.

It was an honor to be part of this prayer time. It was a powerful reminder of how our community churches came together so long ago recognizing the needs in our community and created Active Faith. They are such an important part of our community and I am so grateful to them for organizing such a meaningful gathering and for every church and leader who participated. I invite you to take a moment this week and pray for each of these areas and any others that you would add to the list. May we continue to walk in unity, prayer, and service in the days ahead.

Love and Peace, Rev. Mary

LAYETTES OF LOVE

We successfully used the Layettes of Love account to purchase 27 cases of diapers and 6 cases of baby wipes to split between Active Faith and Cass Community Social Services. The remainder of the Layettes of Love baskets were delivered to Cass as they have a plan to host baby showers at the new Fox Family Center.

CHURCH AND SOCIETY CORNER

A New Vision for The United Methodist Church: Embracing Love, Service, and Courage

We are excited to share that The United Methodist Church has unveiled a new guiding vision statement, adopted by the Council of Bishops in collaboration with the Connectional Table. This vision, rooted in Scripture and discerned through a global, prayerful process, invites us to deepen our discipleship and live out our faith with renewed purpose.

The Vision Statement:

“The United Methodist Church forms disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in local communities and worldwide connections.”

This vision complements our longstanding mission: “To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

Living the Vision:

  • Love Boldly: Embrace and include people of every age, nation, race, gender, and walk of life, reflecting Jesus' inclusive love. (Inspired by Matthew 22:37-39 and John 13:34-35)
  • Serve Joyfully: Journey alongside the most vulnerable, offering care and compassion with joy. (Inspired by Psalm 100:1, Nehemiah 8:10, John 13:14-15, and 1 Peter 4:10)
  • Lead Courageously: Resist and dismantle systems of evil, injustice, and oppression, striving for peace, justice, and reconciliation. (Inspired by Joshua 1:9 and Ephesians 6:10)

Learn More: To delve deeper into this vision and explore resources for our congregation, please visit ResourceUMC.org/vision. An informational video and additional materials are available to guide us in embracing this transformative journey.

Let us come together to embody this vision, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us in loving boldly, serving joyfully, and leading courageously in our community and beyond.
