LIVE Soloist & Bell Choir
THIS SUNDAY!

Read John 15:9-17 to prepare
Hello Church Family,
I am still bubbling over with joy. The Church Has Left the Building was an amazing event. Next week the Mission Outreach Team will share all of the numbers and details. I am looking forward to their report, but in the meantime, I thought you would like to see our group photo!

South Lyon First UMC has a mission statement: Christ-focused, Spirit-filled, and Mission-driven. On Sunday this church lived out all three pieces of this mission statement in bold and creative ways. Please join us for worship this Sunday, as testimonies will be shared about where people experienced God’s love while serving their neighbors. We will also have a photo slide show.
This Sunday, we will also be blessed with a LIVE soloist and bell choir!! We have been blessed with technology that has allowed us to record and share amazing music offerings each week, but we have all missed live music as an important part of celebrating our faith. I know that this has been hard. This week we take a step forward and a masked soloist will be singing. We continue to look for ways that we can all sing together. Watch for an announcement coming in the upcoming weeks.
Beloved, Be loved, Be Love - this was the message that sent us off to love our neighbors on Sunday. This Sunday, our scripture reading is John 15:9-17. We will be focused on the The Joy of Love! Thank you all for being ambassadors of love. May we continue to rise up to what God is calling us to do in this new season of ministry.
Love and Peace in Christ,
Rev. Mary

MAY MISSION OF THE MONTH
Active Faith has been a part of our community for over 30 years, since nine local pastors came together to create Active Faith community Services.

Active Faith’s Mission:
Our Mission is to provide long term and temporary assistance to those who have fallen on difficult times in hopes of returning them to the independent pursuit of their life’s goals.

Active Faith is constantly changing to meet the needs of the community by distributing 195,605 pounds of food, counseling, clothing, children’s tutoring, access and knowledge of outside resources, and The THAW fund site for utility help for over 600 families. In 2011, Active Faith was able to offer The Capernaum Dental and Health Clinics. With your prayers and support our church members along with other churches, our local clergy, and our local community, came together to form Capernaum, a 501C(3) that hosts these clinics.
Active faith provides so many opportunities to help our community; Grow a row, Strike Out Hunger, Postal Food Drive, golf outings, Sponsor a Shelf, and other donor opportunities. There are over 100 companies who support Active Faith. Many of Active Faith's volunteers belong to the First United Methodist church. Please visit their website at: www.activefaithcs.org to learn more.
Please consider supporting Active Faith because together we can help those who have fallen and lift them up through our prayers, support, and actions.

Hebrew 13:16 -Do not neglect to do good and share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
The first Thursday in May is usually observed in our country as National Day of Prayer, and South Lyon has usually held a prayer gathering at noon on that day, in various locations over the years. A few of our church members have wondered if this important event will be held this year, and so far it does not appear to have been scheduled as a community event. In light of this, a few members here at SLFUMC are willing to lead in prayer and welcome any persons who wish to attend. Please know that you are invited to come to the church front lawn, bringing your chair and wearing a mask until we gather at safe physical distances, at noon on Thursday, May 6th. A list of topics to guide our prayers, some printed Scripture readings, and some printed prayers for us to share will be prepared.
If a light rain is in the forecast for that day, we will still meet, so bring your umbrella also. At this time, we do not have an alternative indoor location, so we will need to cancel if the precipitation is heavy.

If you have suggestions for topics you wish to have covered as we pray, please contact Lynn Kneisel at 248-719-0382. Thanks and blessings!
Middle School Mission Experience - July 16-18
We're excited to offer our Middle School folks a mission experience this summer! We'll spend our days working in Detroit with Cass Community Services and serving around South Lyon. The evenings will be filled with fun, fellowship, & worship. We will camp at the church or in backyards (depending on the number of participants). The cost of $60/teen includes a mission experience t-shirt, meals, and supplies for our mission projects. Registration is open for those currently in 6th-8th grades. Contact Kendi to sign up!
Senior High Mission Trip, August 15-21
We're excited to head to the UP to serve God's Country Cooperative Parish! The trip will cost $300-350 per participant and is open to completed 9th graders through completed 12th graders. Our projects will be similar to Mountain Top but tailored to participants' skill set. We're also looking for adult chaperones. Contact Kendi to sign up!

OUTDOOR Ministry Outreach
While looking forward to the spring and summer activities and new ways to expand our outdoor ministries, the Trustees and Church Council have decided that a large tent would greatly expand our opportunities.
