I love how important our community is to SLFUMC. It seems like every day there is a new opportunity to serve South Lyon in some way. This summer, we packed bag lunches for children in our community. Later this year, we’ll open our doors for “Cool Yule.” And, of course, we have year-round opportunities to serve our neighbors through Active Faith.

With Election Day approaching, we have another opportunity to serve.

Our local poll workers put in incredibly long days. Their day begins around 6:00 in the morning and often doesn’t end until well after 8:00 at night. There are few breaks and not many opportunities to simply take a breath and relax. And in a time when elections can bring heightened emotions and anxiety, poll workers are often the ones who encounter that stress firsthand.

So, as a simple sign of appreciation for the time and energy they give to our community, we will be delivering sweets and treats to our local polling locations, along with cards of encouragement and gratitude.

Would you like to be part of it? We will certainly need your help!

Mark Election Day on your calendar and stay tuned for a sign-up sheet here at the church. There will be opportunities to donate treats, write cards, and help us share a little kindness with those serving our community that day.

It’s one more simple way we can be generous, love our neighbors, and share the love of God with South Lyon.

COFFEE WITH PASTOR NICK

On Wednesdays, from 8:00–10:00 AM, you’ll find Pastor Nick at Java House grabbing a cup of coffee, but more importantly, hoping people will stop in and visit. You are invited to join Pastor Nick for a cup of coffee and a time to talk about church, life, family, faith, sports, the weather—or absolutely nothing important at all.

PASTOR APPRECIATION

Hello Friends! I bring greetings from the Staff Parish Relations Team. Wow! Fall is here and October is the month when we celebrate Pastor Nick. It is a time to say “thank you” to him for all he has been doing to get to know our church and our community.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month with the second Sunday designated as Pastor Appreciation Day. It was established as a worldwide recognition time in 1992. The call to honor the contributions of pastoral leaders can be traced back to Paul, who advised congregations to give “double honor” to the elders who managed the affairs of the church well, “especially those whose work is preaching and teaching” (1 Timothy 5:17, NIV).

Pastor Nick has already become an integral part of our church family. With an open heart and a quick laugh, he has begun to share himself with us. He had barely unpacked his boxes before joining us on our God's Country Mission trip. He has spent time with our youth and is focused on helping them achieve their goals and vision for Youth Group. And he has already started celebrating with us and supporting us. SLFUMC shines in South Lyon, which fits Pastor Nick's desire to be visible and connected with our community as we bring our mission and Jesus’ love to others.

We hope to have some surprises for Pastor Nick this month from SPRT and all of the church. Please feel free this month to leave cards for him in the parlor to share your own messages of gratitude. On Sunday, October 11th, we will offer a special treat after each service to celebrate and thank Pastor Nick. Please stop by to offer him your personal greetings.

Thank you for being part of our wonderful church community at SLFUMC. I know we will all be excited to show Pastor Nick our love and appreciation.

Blessings! - Rebecca Lundy, SPRT
