*We appreciate your grace and your understanding. Livestreaming the outdoor service has provided some technical challenges over the last couple of weeks, which we are working to correct. LIGHT FOR THE JOURNEY

We would like to offer “Light for the Journey” this Fall. We started this new ministry in the Spring. This is an eight-week workshop for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This can be a devastating time for those who are left behind. We would like to offer our help during this difficult time. We would be honored to walk beside you on this grief journey.

The goals of the workshop are to give you time to talk about your loss in a safe, caring place, to provide you with education on the grief process, and to give you tools to use on your grief journey. The workshop is based on the book, Death Happened Now What? A Practical Guide for Healing and Understanding the Grief Process by Cathy Clough and Linda Pouliot.

We like to know which time is best for you. We can offer the workshop on Wednesdays at 7:00-8:00PM starting September 29 or we can offer it during Sunday School on Sundays starting on September 26th.

Please contact the church office for questions or to sign up.
ADOPT-A-ZONE
Are you looking for a way to serve the church while enjoying our great Michigan summer? We are currently looking for volunteers to help maintain the gardens that surround the church. (Our weeds are not taking a vacation!) The property has been divided into 10 zones. Just choose a zone (click above on the "Adopt-a-Zone Map" button).

and sign up by clicking https://slfumc.ccbchurch.com/need_detail.php?need_id=15 or calling Molly in the church office (248.437.0760, ext 101). You &/or your family will then be responsible for weeding and maintaining that area this summer and fall. For more information contact Shannon Boals.

SEPTEMBER MISSION OF THE MONTH:
Our September Mission of the Month is The Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeastern Michigan. Since 1985, licensed therapists with myriad expertise employ a variety of therapeutic approaches to assist clients' healing through exploring their inner resources and hopes. They offer a "space for faith," knowing that spirituality is often a key to persons' resilience. The SCC provides professional therapeutic counseling and educational services to all God’s people seeking wholeness through emotional and spiritual growth. They offer a variety of therapy pathways like
·       Individual Counseling
·       Couples/Family Counseling
·       Art Adventures
·       Art Therapy
·       Prepare-Enrich
·       Speakers Bureau
·       Clergy Assessment
You can get further detail on each of these and more by visiting https://www.sccmich.org/
If you want to hear what a personal blessing it is to our Michigan community, talk to Kathy Smith about the counseling she found there and how effective it has been. She is happy to share her story and experience. If you are looking for resources to help improve mental health, click on this link:

Our hands-on mission project for September will be our 5K for Mental Health Awareness. We’ll meet in our church’s parking lot on Sunday, September 12 at 1pm. After our gathering moments, our runners and our walkers will take off from the parking lot and run/walk through South Lyon and down the rail trail, ending back at the parking lot. We’ll have our light blue t-shirts on, to help raise awareness throughout our community. We hope you’ve already registered for the event; if not, we will take last-minute registrations. For more info, call the church office.
Didn't register, but still want to support the cause? Come and help! We need route directors and cheerleaders!
HISTORICAL MEMORIES
The Historical Memories Team invites you to attend scheduled crop sessions this Fall. We will be working on scrapbook pages for Rev. Pauline Hart’s book on the history of SLFUMC. The Crop dates are on Saturdays - Sept. 25, Oct. 23, and Nov. 13. These crop sessions will be held in the Fellowship Hall from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm. Please bring any scrapbooking tools. The project materials, photos, paper supplies, etc. will be provided. If you have historical memories projects that you are already working on, please bring those to The Crop. Lunch will be provided and, if you like, bring a snack to share. RSVP to the church office.
