This is the third week of Advent and we light the pink candle of joy. Let us remember that the good news of Jesus’ birth brings us great joy this Christmas season! Our joy is not dependent on what is going on in our lives or in the world. It does not depend on the gifts we give or the gifts we find under the tree. No earthly thing can ever give us complete joy. Our joy comes from the Lord! That joy that flooded the hearts of the shepherds, the angels, the wise men, the hosts of heaven, and Mary and Joseph is the joy that still has the power to overwhelm our hearts with rejoicing!
Schreiner Students Serve at Light on the Hill!
During the Winter term of 2023 at Schreiner University, 11 students signed up to serve their community through volunteer work. The project was part of the larger Purposeful Lives program, which seeks to plug Schreiner students into local and regional volunteer service opportunities. The students were under the leadership of Dr. Ben Montoya and over the course of three weeks they spent time serving at Light on the Hill at the Mega Food Pantries as well as Mustard Seed Pantry and Mobile Mustard Seed. The students also helped at New Dawn, the transitional housing program at Light on the Hill and they stocked the pantry and refrigerator of the newest home at Habitat for Humanity. These students were outstanding and we hope this is the first of many collaborations with the Purposeful Lives program at Schreiner University! Well done, students!
December Mega Food Pantry brings together unpaid servants from throughout our community to serve our neighbors!
