Appointments Avail Tomorrow

with L.A. Headshot Photographer

headshots 2 Los Angeles headshot photographer Jeffrey Nicholson has slots available on Thursday of this week for his next trip to The Actor Factory.  Wednesday's appointments are sold out, according to his studio manager.

Actors, models, musicians, speakers, singers comedians and more!  Now is your chance to update or finally get the headshot you need so you can compete professionally.

Nicholson is regarded as the photographer that completely changed the way headshots look in Oklahoma when he began making periodic trips to our state over a decade ago.  Still unparalleled in how he captures individual personality and sees light for both commercial and film looks, Nicholson's work stands out on the casting websites.

"When we are looking at submissions 10 across and 20 down per page, you can immediately separate the professional actors from the amateurs just by the level of headshot they are using," said Casting Director Chris Freihofer.  "A headshot is often what separates actors from getting a second look or falling victim to the delete key."

Nicholson reduces his rate in half when he travels outside of Los Angeles, and hundreds of Oklahomans have taken advantage of his services, either launching their career or taking it to the next level.

YOUNG PERFORMERS:  Industry professionals recommend a new headshot every year for actors under the age of 12, and Nicholson knows that can be very expensive, especially outside of Hollywood where opportunity does not present itself every single day.  That is why he has an even better discount for his Young Performer package.  Check out those rates on the link.

OLDER THAN 12?   Industry pros recommend a headshot at least every two years for actors aged 13-21.  Actors over 21 can go will need a new headshot at least every three years or if their look has dramatically changed.  Have you lost or gained a lot of weight?  Have you changed your hair color or drastically changed its length?  Do you not look like the image on the page?  Time for a new headshot.

All headshot appointments come with a  professional hair and makeup stylist, A DVD of all images, and free retouching on one image.

Adult Voice-Over Technique Class Begins September 9

Jeff Nokes After a very successful trial summer session, The Actor Factory recently announced its newest class for adults, Voice-Over Technique, beginning its 8-week session Sunday night, September 9. Taught by Jeff Nokes, voice-artist and owner/engineer at Aspen Digital, this class helps beginning and intermediate actors with the idea of working as a voice-over performer.

The class was originally scheduled to begin August 26, but was postponed due to Labor Day weekend the following Sunday.

Nokes teaches actors to think in terms of the sound of their voice and their voice only.  He deals with voice prep, studio and microphone skills, script analysis for commercials, animation and narration, and creating a demo.  He also instructs important ways to market yourself as a voice actor.

Following his sold-out session this summer, The Factory received amazing praise on Nokes and his class.

"I've been in radio for 13 years and I thought I knew how to voice a commercial.  Boy was I wrong," said Janet of KJ103 radio. "Jeff was so positive with critiques.   "He really knows how to guide people to be better."

Robert Burch of OETA-TV said he would "definitely" recommend this class to friends.  The only thing he would suggest?  "Make it longer.  I'm really going to miss my Tuesday nights (the night the class was offered this summer)."

The class will be offered for 8 weeks from 6:00-8:00 pm for ages 16 and up.  Cost for the session is $250.  There are currently five available spots in the class. Click to enroll

Freihofer Reprises his role on BREAKING BAD Sunday Night

Freihofer jerk

Actor Factory Director and Founder Chris Freihofer returns to the series BREAKING BAD this Sunday night.  Freihofer reprises his role of Dan Wachsberger in the next two episodes of the current season.

Freihofer appears in three of the first eight episodes of the season before the multiple Emmy-nominated series went on hiatus in late June.  His first episode aired July 26, establishing Dan as an attorney used by character Mike Ehrmantraut.

"The entire cast and crew of BREAKING BAD is an absolute delight," Freihofer said.  "The three directors I've worked with, all producers I met, all crew members, cast members, just everyone has been so nice and warm.  They really make everyone feel like family.  It's not only a great honor to be a small part of the show, but it's also just pure joy."

Production resumes later this year for the final eight episodes of the series.  Freihofer has no idea if he will return to the show.

"I didn't know I was going to do more than the first episode.  When they called me back for episodes 7 and 8 I couldn't believe it.  It was so much fun the first time and I was so sad to leave.  So imagine how thrilled I was when I got to go back."

The series films in Albuquerque, NM.

BREAKING BAD has 13 Emmy nominations this season, including its third nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, and Bryan Cranston's fourth straight nomination for Outstanding Actor.  The show airs Sunday nights at 9 pm Central on AMC.

ASK THE FOREMAN
The Factory Foreman Answers Your Questions About The Industry

Do I owe my agent on my residuals too, or just when I book the job?  - Bryan T., Grapevine, TX

Yes, you owe your agent 10% of the residuals you receive for film, television and commercials.  The payroll company will not send commission to your agent, so you are responsible for it.  Just keep in mind that when a residual check comes for a project, or if you receive payment for ADR work or any re-shoots, etc., you should fire off a check equal to the amount of 10% of the gross amount, before any deductions.  This commission is to be paid to the agent that got you the original booking.  If you have changed agent since that job, you need to send a check to the original agent.

I have a question.  Do I have to be in the union to be an extra in the movie?  - Tanner B., Sapulpa, OK

The Foreman presumes the film you are referring to is AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY.  No, you do not need to be in the union (SAG-AFTRA) to be in any film we work on.  The union has no jurisdiction over extras in Oklahoma.  Likewise, if you are already in the union, you can cr

If you have a question about the industry, send an email to ASK THE FOREMAN at Chris@ActorFactory.net.  Please include your name and city and state of residence.
