The First Race Events of the Season
Our first Race Events of the season are coming up! Register now!

Dec 18-19: Buck Hill Pre-Season "Practice" Races @ Buck Hill

Our first event of the season will be a Training event with timed Practice Races each day. Coaching and video will also be a part of this event. We will also explain how to register for our Races, how run Orders work, and how to inspect. This is a great event in which to participate if you are new to Midwest Masters! Coaching will be provided by Mike O'Connor and Ryan Fuller, both certified Alpine Level 100 Coaches with US Ski & Snowboard. Mike is also a coach with Roseville High School.

Jan 8-9: Wild Mountain Border Battle

The Border Battle Trophy is a yearly trophy awarded to either Region I (primarily Minnesota) or Region II (primarily Wisconsin and Illinois) whose team scores the most points for all races in the event. The top 10 point scorers based upon Age Class Place Points for each Region are selected. The sum of the Age Class Points for each of the top 10 members are compared to one another and the Region with the most points wins the Border Battle competition and will get their Region and names engraved on the Border Battle trophy.

Full details can be found on our Race Event Notice. Register by creating an account on our website and registering on the Races page.

Fall Copper Camp Recap
We had our biggest camp ever at Copper Mountain this year with almost 60 people registered, and had to expand to two and three lanes during the week. We also had our first camp "banquet" cooked by chef Scott Malmsten. Lots of shenanigans, and lots of great training! Thanks to all that came and we hope you're all faster this year because of it!

Some highlights from the camp:

  • Another fun visit with Fuxi with lots of prizes
  • About 1/3 of the people were joining us for the first time this year
  • Excellent snow and racing conditions as always
  • Scott's neon retirement pants
  • Lots of Polish hooch thanks to Jozef (sorry you couldn't make it out this year!)

Thanks to Matt and Lee for coaching us again and putting up with all our BS.

We haven't determined our plan for next season quite yet. But if you'd like to attend next year, be sure to sign up early before it fills!
Lodging Block Reminder!

Ski Cooper Highlight
We will once again be joining Rocky Mountain Masters at Ski Cooper in Colorado once again this season for the annual Shin Tuck Showdown. Midwest Masters will be looking to win back the coveted Shin Tuck Trophy this year so come on out and join us!

This event is the best value in ski racing and is a great venue to try your first DH as great coaching is available and a lot of practice runs can be had. There's also formal DH training runs, 2DH races, a SG, and a SL to finish the week. We are also considering adding a Super Combined on Sunday.

We did some math, and if you attend the speed events alone, the amount of racing done this week down the 1 mile Black Powder DH trail amounts to 118 runs down Milk Run at Buck Hill! If you race in Ski Challenge at Buck Hill, that equates to over 8 YEARS of racing at Buck Hill... in only 4+ days at Ski Cooper!

See the Rocky Mountain Ski Cooper Fact Sheet here. This has all details on the entire event. YOUR BUCK HILL PASS PROVIDES 3 DAYS OF LIFT TICKETS AT SKI COOPER!

You may register for the races on the Races page of midwestmasters.org. Note these races are organized by the Rocky Mountain Division, and the cost structure is different from Midwest Masters.

DISCOUNTED LODGING WITH MIDWEST MASTERS IS AVAILABLE! We are coordinating lodging for anyone and everyone who wants to join us out west! Kris Grebe is coordinating. Sign up to join us using this link, and see details on the properties we are renting.
